MY ds has had slight excema on his body but using aveeno has kept that clear (unfortunately my GP surgery will not prescribe it anymore for some reason). His cheeks have been red for a couple of days and yesterday one got weepy so I took him to the GP. He prescribed a parafin emolient cream to keep his skin moistuised once clear and Fusidic acid to put on to heal the cheek. As soon as I put on the acid cream he began to scratch like mad and his skin is much worse as a result. it did say on the leaflet that it may irritate at first. He is in bed now with socks on his hands. The GP gave no instruction on how to apply this cream. Does anyone have any experience of using it.

Thanks so much

I got some for my DD the other week as she had some infected eczma. We just applied it thinly to the affected area twice a day.

Maybe some piriton syrup might help with the itching too?

Thanks vvv thats reassured me that at least the GP prescribed the correct thing, I will reapply tomorrow but very thinly and ask chemist about piriton.

Fusidic acid just kills the fungus that can cause some types of excema. The steroid in it is probably hydrocortisone which'll help bring down the inflamation on the skin...

My DS has just been prescribed this for a chapped chin that became infected.

It hasnt made him itch and has dramatically improved his chin in 48 hours.

Its well used for infected eczema or impetigo. It'll definately help and should clear up the problem. It might itch because the skin is so dry, try to put the parafin based emollient on as often as possible. You can buy Aveeno in Boots now and its still available on prescription, ointments are far more effective so I would stick with the parafin based one for now. Good luck
