CMPA 3 weeks milk free, what now?

So, on Thurs we will have been completely milk free for 3 weeks. Such a difference! Skin has completely healed from its sore eczema ridden self and you wouldn't even know he had had it. No loose nappies, or vile smelly ones. No sickness or snotty nose...

We have the review on Thursday but I dont know what to expect - will we be put back onto milk to see what happens? Will we be told whether it is an allergy or an intolerance? Will we be referred on?

Anyone got any experience?

Hi,how old is your little one?his skin looks lots better, you must be so happy! I have been through the same with my ds (8months)
He was referred to a dietician by our health visitor who recommended to our gp that the milk should be put onto repeat prescription and gave advice on foods etc. We didn't have to 're try cows milk. (Dont think I would have anyway).
He was fine on one milk called nutramigen for a few weeks then all the symptoms came back so they prescribed neocate.
There is a group on Facebook called cmpa (cows milk protein allergy) support. Check it out, lots of help and advice.Smile

We were given cmpa diagnosis by the consultant at the allergy clinic after exclusion diet, referred to the pediatric dietician for reviews and started the reintroduction milk ladder once dc turned 18 months. The procedure does seem to vary hugely depending on where you live though.

Hi, my little girl was also cmpa. She was put onto nutramigen lipil 1 until all her symptoms came back around 2 weeks later so she was put onto nutramigen aa (now called puramino).

If his symptoms have gone through going dairy free they are unlikely to ask you to give him milk again at such a young age. My little girl is almost 13 months now and I still haven't been asked to try her on the milk ladder (google will tell you what this is).

We were referred to a dietician to advise on dairy free weaning but they were useless and we've pretty much worked it out ourselves!

I'm glad your Ds is much better now and you seem to have worked out what the issue is.

Only just seen all these replies! I feel so ignorant! DS is just 1 btw.

So after our 3 weeks completely milk free, our GP has confirmed that DS is CMPA. Definitely CMPA not CMPI or lactose intolerant.

I pretty much figured out it would be CMPA but so nice to be told it definitely is. Dr said we can now try DS on soy products but to keep an eye on him as he explained 10-40% of those with CMPA can have an allergy to soy. He said we will be staying on the Aptamil Pepti 2 for at least another year and that we may be able to get awaqy with cooked/processed things with milk in like sauces/yoghurts etc because the protein changes with cooking so might try that further down the line. He is also referring us to a dietician to check DS is getting the correct amount of calcium.

Sorry if this post is waffle but it's such a relief to get a diagnosis and know we did well during his complete milk ban!
