see how she is in the night misdee, it may be that night is her "time" for her asthma to be worse, for me its last thing at night and first thing in the morning.

misdee · 14/11/2006 20:16

the attack happened before 9am yesterday.

have had a proper think about what i would do if it was one of my DS's and i would be inclined to keep them off all week while the new inhalors take effect properly.

misdee · 14/11/2006 20:30

she isnt a wheezy asthmatic either. and the school missed the last big one she had.

a whole week off? she is going crazy wanting to go in lol.

she slept a lot yesterday, but not today. she seems ok, has good colour. her teacher was fantastic yesterday and arrnage for a lift for us to get back here (we had walked, attack happened in the playground before school).

misdee sorry to hear your dd is poorly
When my ds has an attack I usually keep him off school for a couple of days. It's hard because he just wants to bounce around even though his chest is tight. it's very hard to keep children still!!
I like to know in myself that his chest is recovered enough to stand all the dashing around he does at school. We have a peak flow meter now and that gives a good gauge as to how he has recovered and as to what is normal for him when he's not wheezy. Hope that helps

dd2 had a very bad asthma attack last autumn, was in hospital from Sat to Wed and told to stay off school till following Mon. I remember she also complained of some tight feelings during those days at home but it did settle down for the next week.

I would keep her off if you can. dd2 perked up at home but wasn't back to full strenght.

hmm, have already booked carers on for the morning at 8am. i guess i will just make an early morning shopping trip then. lol.

poor thing..thats so tough. She had contact with anything dodgy or is she stressed? dd has attacks if contact with cats or dogs. hope she better soon

Nemo1977 · 14/11/2006 21:27

Aww misdee if her chest is still tight then would keep her home. Even slight activity of walking around classroom could trigger another attack so better to be home.

misdee · 14/11/2006 21:29

she spent the weekend at the caravan with my parents and their dog. i think that may have been a trigger.

i think for a 6yr old, she could be considered to be under stress due to the family situation

Being an asthmatic and knowing that tight feeling well, I personally would keep her off tomorrow. Simply because it's a clear sign it's not under control yet, and in all my attacks the precursor has been low level niggly symptoms over a period of time that I've ignored and then haven't got better ... (and at my age, I really should know better).

Keep her off. Chances are she'll be fine and it'll be a waste of a day, but I think it's better that way than the other...

misdee · 14/11/2006 21:47

thanks.

misdee-can dr check dd for dog allergy as sounds poss. So sorry she so young for this. dd was 8 before having real athsma. perhaps she better at home tomorrow

mooseloose · 01/02/2009 21:11

See whats she is like in the morn. If she is quiet and listless keep her off. My ds is 6 (had asthma since 4) and is very good about asking for inhaler when he can't breathe. And if he's sort of ok for school i send him, but make sure I'm at home or not far away in case he is poorly.
Have you got a peak flow to check? ds has not had one for very long, as they say too litttle to do it properly, but its a good indicator.

RubberDuck · 01/02/2009 21:37

moose, this thread is over two years old I would hope misdee's dd has recovered well by now!

mooseloose · 01/02/2009 22:05

what!!! well it was at the top of the list and caught my eye as i looked for something else!!! perhaps something to do with the new site!
[feel daft now smiley]

RubberDuck · 02/02/2009 08:29

easily done... I was all poised to give advice as well until I realised that it would be a bit out of date!

misdee · 09/02/2009 14:23

how strange.
