Aqueous cream

Ds has developed ecsma (can't spell!) on his face and chest at 6 weeks. He has been prescribed aqueous cream to rub on frequently but I have since been told that this is now classed as a cleansing agent and not a 'moisturiser' and therefore should not be used like this. Has anyone else heard this? GPs don't always keep up with changes to drugs whereas pharmasists do is what I was told.

i use acqueous cream as a moisturiser - it is fantastic and doesn't irritate my eczema prone skin.

I have used aqueous cream on both my DD and DS. I have always found it very good and it doen't seem to irritate at all. Never heard of it being called a cleansing agent.

AnnaK - I use aqueous cream as a moisturiser - it's great stuff! I've had eczema since I was a baby, though it's much better now I'm older. The confusion about aqueous cream may have arisen because it can also be used instead of soap. In fact you can get it in convenient soap-bar form. But you are just fine using it as a moisturiser. It will really help with the dry skin and you can use it as much as you like.

u can whisk it into a foam of sorts to use in the bath for added softness. tho remember to scrub the bath after at it does cause some sliding. but is still a moisteriser.

Copied and pasted :

Aqueous Cream is a gentle moisturising cream suitable for dry skin conditions, anywhere on the body. The cream is non-medicated, non-greasy and safe for use by people of all ages. It doesn't contain any perfumes or colouring agents.

Aqueous Cream can also be used by people who are sensitive to regular soaps or detergents as it does not contain alkalis.

My dd has eczema and i was always at the doctor who would prescribe varios steriod creams for her.I accidently came across this in one of the major supermarkets and thought i would give it a go.To my suprise it cleared up all her eczema which was particulary bad on her face, legs and arms and since i've been using it it hasn't returned except that one time when i ran out!! My aunt also uses it on her two sons who also have eczema and their skin has cleared up too.I don't know if it a coincidence but it's worth a go.
