I hope that it is OK for me to post this, if not please remove. I just wanted to share with my fellow coeliac/allergy mums a good story. You will understand how much this meant to me.

My three DDs all have coeliac disease and not being able to have the birthday cake at parties was always the worst thing for them when they were younger. A few years ago, a friend of mine went to a lot of trouble at her daughter's party - the only thing that was different in their party food box was the bun to put the (gluten free) sausage in (and she'd bought gluten free buns for them). Everything else was gluten free and she'd made gluten free cupcakes and birthday cake so they didn't feel left out. I was completely overcome and am embarrassed to say I cried Blush. Now they're older, it doesn't bother them quite so much, but it's a big deal for smaller children, so I can totally understand how you felt Smile.

We had an epi-pen for dairy, I used to prepare a little shiny platter of DF food for every party DD went to, sandwiches, cake, strawberries, cucumber, sausages, crisps, carrots, grapes, jelly etc., etc.. I even bought a packet of doilies.

I couldn't stand it otherwise, it is so hard for children to understand.

Ahh, how lovely. I have very fond memories of the one Mum who used to make sure coeliac DS could eat all the party food.

Thank you for your lovely comments! I was a bit worried about posting Smile since our diagnosis I am so much more aware of other children's dietary needs, so may need to call on you guys for some advice on tasty food, when it's our turn to have a party. I know a couple of children with egg and sesame allergies! X

Don't be embarresed about crying! I was exactly the same. It's such a big deal for the kids. It's also a big deal for us mumma's, to be taken seriously and not have to fight the negativity and rumblings of being an over protective parent, to be accepted. X
