Wheat intolerance after pregnancy

hello

Has anyone developed a wheat intolerance after pregnancy? After having my first (and only) child I suffered terrible stomach cramps/digestive uncomfortableness and managed to eventually pinpoint that food containing wheat was the problem. Dr did blood tests and put me on IBS meds initially but they didn't help and I ended up having to figure it out myself. If I have food containing wheat it even hurts my chest minutes after taking it. I tend to limit diary too although I haven't cut it out. I think I always had a mild problem with wheat but after pregnancy it got so much worst. Or could it just be the fact that my digestive system is different in my late 30s and can't handle the same foods any more? All I know is that cutting out the wheat keeps my digestive system happy - any one had similar experiences?

Can't comment on the pregnancy relatedness or not, but i definitely have friends who developed wheat/gluten intolerance in their 30s....

Start eating wheat again the. Ask for coeliac blood test. Or buy one at Boots. Otherwise you are playing a guessing game. Could be wheat related. I'm coeliac but it only showed itself after pregnancy.

If you test and you're not you can explore other options.

I suspect I have after my second pregnancy. Bloating and discomfort. Not sure what to do about confirming it though!

Yes, I did. At the time I didn't realise, but after years of bloating, discomfort and general digestive distress I was diagosed with IBS and told to cut out wheat, which I did. I've seen a huge improvement in my symptoms since making that change (and others - but cutting out wheat was the big one).

I also started to feel nervous about eating meals as I'd feel so uncomfortable afterwards. It's so nice to eat a wheat free meal and not feel that terrible bloated cramping feeling afterwards. I also found that my digestive system likes lots of water now too.

Bread always seemed to affect me the worst, I do miss a good sandwich, gluten free bread is just not the same!
