I've had some good advice on here for my allergic/intolerant DS, now it's DH's turn!

He has struggled with severe eczema all his life, was brought up by a fairly forward thinking, alternative mother who did everything she could for him and was/is convinced it was all food related, this way she kept it under control as much as she could. Fast forward 30 years and it is worse than ever, he has every kind of steroid cream going, has a long drawn out emollient/moisturising routine, tries all the creams and lotions he can lay his hands on but still the sheets are streaked with blood and he wakes me up scratching every night. His face is inflamed all around his eyes - this recent flare up has been the worst yet. His diet hasn't changed at all and we change our mind daily as to whether it is affected by food or not. He thinks dairy and alcohol and sugar are culprits, along with lack of sleep (extremely sleep resistant 11 month old), and sensitivity to virtually all products/soaps etc, and possibly a cyclical nature to it (last seriously big flare up several years ago).

But he has had IgE blood test and there were no food allergies (but severe positive results for all pollen, mould and house dust mite). Not had patch testing done. Anyway that was done by a GP and she just handed over the results with no advice at all, along with a repeat prescription for the steroid cream.

So we are looking into using health insurance to see someone in London (we are not UK) Don't know where to start - dermatologist, allergist, etc. Can anyone point us in the right direction and/or suggest anything we might not have thought of.

Thanks so much

I'm in hospital right now due to having eczema on more than 80 percent of my body. I was referred by the gp as it got so bad.

I'm also allergic to dust mites and pollen. Also animal dander. I'm having food allergy tests next week.

It's worth pestering someone to try and get him admitted when it gets to bad. I wish I'd come sooner.

I've been given a bath of purple stuff each morning(potassium pragmate...?) then slathered in 50/50 cream and left for an hour. Then I've been covered in elecon ointment, then a mix of 50 50 and ichthammol together. Then They cover me from head to toe in bandages.

It's clearing now and according to them the best thing to do is moisturise moisturise mousturise. I know how tough this can be. Some of that stuff mentioned can only be used in hospital. I'm in Scotland though so it may be different depending where you are.

The only other thing u do is an extra rinse on my clothes after they have been washed and change my sheets every day. Good luck.
