Rash on Face

Hi

My son is 6 months old and since weaning him commenced 7 weeks ago he has had a spotty rash around his mouth, nose and chin. It seems to come and go at random and I am not sure whether it is due to food or just a teething rash because he is drooling alot. Sometimes it is worse than others. Occasionally these spots seem to be on his eye lids too.
He also has some pink shadows under his eyes which I wonder if they are relevant??

I am just about to introduce other foods eg. wheat, dairy, protein but am a little nervous if he is reacting to veggies / fruit.

Can anyone help? Has anyone else any experience of this?

Thanks

Sue

Ds had this when he was that age and it never bothered him. His was contact allergy to milk so everytime the food with dairy touched his skin it came up in a rash but never affected him otherwise.

Do you have any asthma, eczema or hayfever or other allergies in your family?

My ds got a terrible contact rash with carrot and also still gets a rash if he eats certain types of pumpkin. Is your ds eating any citrus fruit or berry fruit?

My ds reacted to such weird things that I kept a diary of his rashes and his food until I worked out which ones caused him problems.

Kiwi fruit is a big thing for allergy. Ds and I cant eat it.

Our ds has lots of allergies and often got similar sounding rashes (and still does at 14 months). Often it is a new food he has become allergic to (eg fish, citrus fruits, strawberries) or it is simply his drool causing discomfort on the skin. It can then be wiped round the face, hair, body etc etc which might be what is causing the rash near his eyes. The diary sounds like a good idea - it is easy to think we are spotting all the associations but it is only when looking back over a few days that the trends become apparent.

I know it's probably not much help, but we still find that random (and often undetectable) things set off ds skin and itching. It is tough but keeping their faces clean during eating and keeping them cool seems to be the best advice I can give.

Don't worry too much about the food though - weaning is a nerve-wracking process (especially with allergic children) and I'm sure you're doing a great job!
