Toddlers with reflux and CMPI?

Hi, just wondered if there is anyone else on here with a toddler with reflux and CMPI? My DS is nearly two and all my other friends babies have long grown out of their reflux. I have been trying to find new foods to increase DSs limited diet but of course he now a fussy toddler who won't eat anything new!
Anyway I just wondered if anyone else is in the same boat?

Yes, yes and yes .

My 2.5 year old is still refluxing with the best of them. Still on omeprazole - he refused it for two days last week and started vomiting again on the 3rd day.

Still on nutramigen 2 - drinks quite a lot for his age (26 oz/day), but he has no other reliable dietary source of calcium, so we're going with it for now. Unfortunately that means he doesn't eat a great deal, and is quite fussy. He also soy and egg intolerant, so diet very limited. I think if we had option of eggs and/or dairy it would open up a lot more options and he would probably eat better .

Textures are also an issue. Hoping that he will get better with time, but I get teary and despondent about it at times, especially when he fails another dairy challenge.

I also have a 1 year old with reflux, CMPI, egg, soy and possibly corn intolerance. She's a bit harder - still breastfed as I can't find a suitable alternative milk that she will drink reliably and that doesn't cause terrible gas for her. So my diet is limited too.

Mealtimes are hard work! How are you coping with it?

Oh gosh sounds like you've got your work cut out for you, I can't imagine having two refluxers at once!
DS is on Omeprazole and Neocate, he drinks a lot of milk as well and I'm dreading them trying to stop his Neocate!
Is the soy and egg intolerance something they might grow out of like the dairy?

Andthisistrue, we still get reflux, but only when we eat some of our allergen foods. Are you sure you've identified them all? We used to be on Omeprazole (along with a LOT of other things), but now on nothing, however our allergy list makes Grumbelina's sound like a walk in the park (and i know people who would LOVE to have just 'our' allergy list, as theirs is far worse...).

andthisistrue my son's allergist/immunologist said he would likely grow out of them, but he seems to lose, rather than gain tolerance. He was (or seemed to be, anyway) tolerating baked egg for a while, but just recently has started reacting to it again. He's about the age where lots of children do apparently grow out of their intolerances, but it doesn't seem to have happened for us yet. It would be really great if he had more options when it came to meals, as he is a fussy eater and I worry that the longer things are out of his diet, the harder it will be to reintroduce them. Dairy challenges are a case in point - he refuses things so i have to skip entire steps!

Mayfairmummy I'm sorry - I didn't mean to come across all "woe is me", you're absolutely right that many people have a much harder time of things than I/my children do. Thank you for the reminder - I do have a lot to be grateful for.

Grumbelina ... sorry; i wasn't meaning to sound rude; I just seem to come across that way these days Blush. I blame being old, pregnant and in pain (bloody pgp); of course, it could be just me being like that. Grin

I remember when cutting out the first things (like dairy and soy and egg) was a real challenge and cut out SO much of our diet.... on the other end, I've done various training days at the hospitals for both professionals and parents, and met some mums whose kids are on feeding pegs, or can only eat 7 different food types in one case ... made me realise how easy we've got it.

I've heard other people say they've managed a rung on the ladder for a while, but then failed after it built up in their system; how long were you doing baked egg?

WRT fussiness.... I know exactly what you mean; DS2 is eating a hugely limited diet at the moment and he completely refuses a lot of the things that he 'can' eat, but don't look right to him. My biggest hope is that a lot of it is age related (i know it's more than that, but i'm still hoping); DS1 was really fussy at 3 but now is much much better than before. Other allergy children i know (who are 5 or 6; DS1's age) are quite scared of eating new food (or eating out), but will happily eat at my house because they know i know about allergy things. With luck, ours will get better as they age, as long as they know they're safe...

My DS is fine when on the Omeprazole, if he misses a say or two his symptoms come back so I think the meds are still helping. He is a lot better than he used to be so hopefully he will grow out of eventually.
I know what you mean about refusing new foods. I gave up trying to introduce soya as he won't eat any of it! Shame as it could make his diet more interesting. He has recently stopped eating blueberries and bananas which were the only two fruits he could have, hopefully he will come back to them though!
I have a friends who's little boy has FPIES which means he only has 10safe foods, I can't imagine how hard that is!
