Strawberry/Oranges/Rashes - what do I need to know/do for my 11 mth?

My ds is just 11 months. I have noticed that he gets a rash when he eats a citrus fruit or a strawberry. It took me a while to make the connection, at first I attributed it to other things.

With a strawberry, he will go red anywhere it touches.
With a orange or other citrus, he gets a rash a little while after eating it on his forehead - red with small bumps. Today he had a lick of his brother's ice pop after lunch and immediately got the forehead rash.

Are there foods I should avoid giving him e.g. do these allergies predict others?
What will GP need to know - should I bring a picture?

I am asthmatic as is most of the family but my other two children don't seem to have any sort of allergy or atopic condition.

Thanks.

My 10month old kept holding his breath, almost looked like a fit.
I rushed him to the GP and they were laid back about it. I kept saying this is not normal, holding his breath is not funny, I almost have to shout at him to stop as a distraction.

Anyway, the GP asked me to record him next time he does it. So I would recommend you take pics, otherwise they might blame it on teething.

I would not really take allergy advise from the internet. As allergies have different severity, definitely talk with your GP.

I agree with MummySara, definitely speak to your GP and from experience pictures will illustrate much more than trying to describe symptoms verbally.

Yes take a photo and keep a note of foods.

DD is sensitive to orange and also to tomato. She can't eat fresh tomato; she can tolerate a little bit of tomato sauce but if she eats tomato soup she comes out in a rash/it worsens her eczema. She can't drink fresh orange or fresh pineapple, but the heat-treated stuff is OK.

There are definitely families of food in allergy but equally it can be quite random. Try the Anaphylaxis campaign website or Allergy Uk for factsheets.

May I ask, was the reaction to strawberry immediately or after a couple of hours?
