Does anyone have a really good Gluten Free white bread recipe?

I've been happy with M&S's GF bloomer for months now, but found a GF bakery a couple of weeks ago and rediscovered delicious, "proper" bread. The kind you can just slice and eat with butter and jam, that actually tastes like real, fresh bread!
Unfortunately, visiting the bakery is a 90min round trip and a small loaf (400g) cost £5.99! Which means it's not really an option as my weekly loaf.

So, I'm now on a mission to bake my own and try to recreate the loaf.

I was hoping other people might have some favourite bread recipes, white or brown, that they'd be willing to share with me...

Pleurghhhh...just baked a buckwheat loaf, smells wrong and doesn't taste an awful lot better.

Please...someone...anyone...please share your bread recipes with me!

Still waiting to find out results of coeliac biopsy and trying to eat GF in the meantime - as a former maker of proper sourdough I feel your pain. If I have to do this forever I'll be experimenting with bread making too - so I may be back on this thread in a couple of weeks!
Interesting to know about the M and S bread. What's the bakery you found?

Bimblepops · 23/02/2015 14:38

The bakery is Romeo's Gluten-Free Bakery, on Upper St, Islington, N London.
www.romeosglutenfreebakery.co.uk
I bought a prosciutto focaccia, a seeded loaf and a white loaf. All delicious - mainly because they tasted like real, proper bread!

Am currently waiting for a date for my coeliac biopsy, but have been GF since October. Even if I'm not coeliac (lots of family history), I appear to be gluten intolerant, so I've got to find a good bread solution. I resorted to sniffing DH's pain rustique at lunchtime!

M&S are good for GF, they've taken it out of loads of their 'regular' products and are continually expanding their 'Free From' range. Even their breaded ham is made with GF breadcrumbs!

Ooh, that's all useful to know. Two things about the biopsy - you probably know this but you have to be eating gluten x2 daily for six weeks before it (nobody told me this but I was so sniffy about the thought of being gluten free that I carried on stuffing my face with bread anyway - didn't connect stomach pains, etc, until later) - and suggest you insist on the sedation. I was going to on my dad's advice but got there and was steamrolled into just going for the throat spray. Sleepy would have been better.

I have not mastered the art of baking really nice gf bread, sadly, though will watch with interest for a tried-and-tested recipe!

The wheat free bakery (you can find them online) have nice bread which isn't as expensive as Romeo's, and you can order online - if you have a freezer you can stock up and get free delivery (over £30 order)

Bimplebops it is important you continue to eat gluten while you are waiting for the biopsy or test won't be accurate.

TheCarrotsDontWork · 11/03/2015 13:49

I read it as OP has had the biopsy, and is just waiting for results, Lagoon.

Though, technically, you should continue eating gluten in case the biopsy needs to be re-done, but hopefully that's unlikely.

No tried and tested recipes for bread. I was a baker previously and do miss it. The Dove Farm range of flour is good for cakes. Must start experimenting with their bread blends.

I dont make gf bread now back at work no time, I used to use gutafin bread mix in a breadmaker when I was sahm. You can get this mix on prescription if diagnosed coeliac.

However I think gluten free flat bread such as foccacia is not that difficult, just google gluten free foccacia. I have made it once and it tasted Ok but we had put too much salt in, you dont need as juch as it said in the recipe.

Use doves farm flour.
