Petrified of allergic reactions

DD is 9 months old and I'm absolutley petrified of her suffering an allergic reaction. There is no previous of allergies in our families so no real reason to panic.
I suffer from anxiety though which doesn't help!

She has been prescribed amoxicillin for an ear infection by the GP today but I was so scared she'd have a serious reaction that I waited till my DP got home. I feel sick just waiting for the hour to pass. I've also read that serious reactions don't usually happen at first contact so that makes me even more anxious about her having the next dose.

I know that should the worst happen, I just need to dial 999 but I can't get over my fear for some reason. Please can someone come and reassure me Blush

Only a very very small proportion of the population are allergic to penicillin, and of that minority only a handful would suffer a life-threatening reaction. And of those who are that severely allergic, the vast majority would have plenty of time to get medical attention before their life was in danger.

In the event of an allergic reaction, GPs, paramedics, walk-in centres and A&E all carry drugs that would suppress the reaction until full A&E care was able to be given.

I don't know if that is helpful.

I'm allergic to penicillin but only very mildly. I am severely allergic to nuts but even that does not cause me (and never did my parents) a great deal of anxiety. Medical care for allergies is well developed nowadays in this country.

Please try not to worry!

yes my ds is also allergic to nuts, had eczema as a baby (badly), and now even though he is over 12 he needs to watch what he eats.

the thing is just don't leave your baby alone because if anything happens if you are there then you can help the baby straight away,

my son had allergic reaction to egg when he was 1, the legs were red and swollen for a while. but antihistamine helped. i dont know at what age a baby can take antihistamine but that is a good medication to have for allergic reactions. my son used to take it frequently if he ever ate something that made his mouth feel strange/swollen etc.
