Sudden reoccurrance of eczema after a few months' relief - could it be tree pollen?

DD1 (aged 3) has had really good skin for a few months, after near on a year of awful problems. However, she's just started having a really bad flare up on her neck and face (for the first time ever), and her hands (for the umpteenth time).

Could it be tree pollen?

my ds also has a flare up at the moment and I was wondering if it was something to do with the tree pollen in the air.Nothing else has changed in his diet, health etc.
Saw your thread on salt water,my ds finds his bath water a bit uncomfortable at the moment even with dermol600 in it,so probably would find saltwater too stingy??

it could be. dd1 is also suffering atm, have been up a lot during the nights dealing with her. poor love doesnt want her mitten pyjamas on after being able to wear normal pj's for a few months.

Same problem here. I think it is just the change in temperature. I have been trying to make sure he doesn't overheat. I can't keep the mittens on him anymore and have been thinking of bandaging his little infected fingers. What do you think?

Aussiesim, how old is your ds? could he wear a mitten t-shirt at night? cotton comfort do them from a young age.

I am sure it is pollen. Ds and dh are both suffering. Dhs eyes are really puffy and ds has red hot skin on his neck and face (the bits exposed to the air). They are both taking piriton and it does seem a bit better today.

Hi insandiee, DS is 15mths. I've followed a couple of links provided on here to find PJ's with mittens but couldn't order sucessfully from any of them. I am in Germany and haven't found any here locally. I asked DS's dermatologist and he just looked at me like I was mad.

DS's eczema has been pretty good for the last couple of months except for his fingers/thumbs - which he sucks and chews on and then they end up badly infected. (In the last couple of days spots came back on his face, but I think I have headed them off with Elocon). I was using fucidine on it but it was making no difference and eventually went back to get antibiotics for him, which worked last time. After 5 days on the the antibiotics his fingers were looking much better and then they worsened again and now that I am nearly out of the antibiots they are improving again. I don't know what I can do if the antibiotics are finished and his fingers aren't better.

Any suggestions ggrratefullly received.

have an idea. you could send over an international money order to someone, they could order the items for you, recieve them and then post onto you. (depedsn on how willing u are to trust people) how tall is your ds, i may have a mitten top u could purchase off me, as dd1 has had a growth spurt lately. if it will fit, then email me at djmisdee(at)hotmail.com the top is about 6months old, its quite tight fitting, and has the fold back mittens, she used to wear it to nursery on itchy days and put the mittens on at quiet and story times.

My son has had excema since 3 weeks old. He also has allergies to egg, nuts and pollen. He was prescribed Zirtek Solution, as oppose to Piriton, initially for allergic rhinitis, and his excema virtually cleared up. Doctor agreed that this was not coincidental, and that the anti-histamine would be helping.

By 3 years old my son had learnt to tap, rub or simply hold his hand firmly on the itchy skin, and not to scratch. Lots of praise for doing so really made a difference. Also, I kept him in sleepsuits until about 3 1/2 years, believing that if I kept him covered up at night he couldn't scratch. But he would get too hot, and for some reason that I cannot remember I tried putting him to sleep just in boxer shorts, with a light duvet, and that really helped too. Keep nails very short and trim every 2/3 days though.

Insaneidee, thanks for the offer. I will search a little harder here locally and get in touch if I still have no luck.

So do you think antihistamines might help DS not chew on his fingers? They are really strict here about not giving antihistamines to kids under 2, but I could ask again I guess.
