Eczema and reflux and allergy? intollerance?

My friends DD is 8 weeks old and since birth has put on 1lb. She has eczema all over her face and constantly throws up her formula after every feed. She is not a crier but she is constantly hungry. Friend took her DD to the GP and he prescribed gaviscon which had no effect. HV has been visiting to regularly weigh the baby but that's the only input. Friend took her DD to the GP again and he referred to hospital where she was admitted, prescribed ranitidine (sp) and then discharged. Again there has been no improvement.

Is there any advice regarding what medication she should ideally be on and what formula she should be having etc? The hospital said she is failing to thrive but discharged her!

Ask GP to prescribe nutramigen. Hospital should hAve prescribed it really. Try it, at least you can eliminate allergies if it isn't that.

I don't think you can get it over the counter.

However there might be someone on here who may be willing to lend you some. My LO doesn't have any, or else I could have posted you some.

Hi if she can't get nutramigen from the gp Aptamil comfort is a good choice. The ingredients are much further broken down that they are in other powders.

IMO the child's problems are down to what she is eating. I mean what else would it be!

Change the feed ASAP!

It sounds like she could possibly have cmpi. My 4.5 month old dd has it and is on nutramigen aa milk. If your friends gp won't prescribe it she needs to be asked for a referral to a paediatrician. We had to fight tooth and nail for the prescribed milk but she's like a different baby now she has it and has finally started putting on weight.

Aptamil comfort won't be much use if it's a cows milk allergy. She needs to get the doctor to prescribe nutramigen AA or lipil, aptamil pepti 1 or neocate. The easiest way to do this is to ask for a two week trial (so 3 tins). If there is an improvement then go back and ask for more. Get your friend to take pictures of the eczema and any vomiting etc now and again after the two weeks to prove it's working. some babies still react to the lipil and pepti so if no improvement then ask for nutramigen aa or neocte.
