We have recently started giving my 19 month old dd milk with add omega 3 but we have noticed that she has this has seemed to have a detrimental effect on her behaviour she has suffered from :- Mood swings
Hyperactivity !
Insomnia
Tearfullness
Very Clingy
I was just wondering if anyone else ahd noticed anything like this and if it could be linked to omega 3 even though it is claimed to be the wonder cure for all sorts of behavour problems.

I would be so greatful for any kind of advice or similar storys as i seem to be unable to find and bad press about omega 3 but am almost total convinced that this is what has effected her.

I remember reading that one of the omegas can cause this, but can't remember which.

Jimjams is the expert in formulations.

what other ingredients are in the milk?

how do they hide the fish oil taste?
perhaps she reacted to artifical flavour or sweetners?

sweetbean · 10/10/2006 08:47

Thanks threebob would be greatful if you could get jimjams to post on this thread XX

Have you now stopped giving her this millk ?

Personally I think you would be better giving her organic milk & adding a (bought) organic blend of omega 3,6 + 9 to her milk. (udo's do one - can be bought in Sainsburys)

I am very suspicious of foods with added omegas...everytime I see them advertised I think...fish eyes...yuk

Normal milk and a hefty swig of flax seed oil may be worth a try.

sweetbean · 11/10/2006 08:28

Thanks for all the advise we stopped he milk on sunday but still had a trerrible time putting her down last night she is just refusing to sleep and screams the house down which is just not like her.
Threebob can i ask what will the flax seed do?

Flax seed is a seed that is high in Omega 3 and 6 ... a good alternative to fish oils.

threebob · 12/10/2006 01:13

And because it come pure and cold filtered you don't have to worry about any other flavourings, colourings, sweetener which they may be tempted to bung into more fishy tasting concoctions.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 12/10/2006 01:25

Flax seed contains alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). ALA converts to EPA and ultimately DHA but very inefficiently (1-5%). In short, flaxseed may not be a good substitute for fish oil if what you really want is the DHA and EPA (which are the ones purported to improve behaviour, concentration etc).
