I've been a regular on the breast feeding topic due to the problems we've had with feeding. To cut a long story short, DS had an undiagnosed tongue tie which was only snipped at 6.5 weeks. He wouldn't latch and was started on formula straight away as top ups. He's now 8 weeks and breastfed approx 90% of the time, with usually one formula top up in the evening. His latch is still poor, weight gain is slow and we've been persevering.

I've been in and out if the GP the last few weeks because DS doesn't poo. It had always been slow.. maybe once a day for the first week, And then every few days. From 4 weeks onwards it's been at least a week between poos, and only going if we give a glycerin suppository. His stools are soft and normal colour.. He just can't go unprompted!

He is also colicky - he screams and feeds endlessly all evening until 2 am. He's up at 6 am and that's it for the day. We feed for the best part of 8 to 10 hours a day. The rest of the day is filled with cat naps and crying.

He's also got a snuffly nose which is worse during and just after feeding. Around his bum he has a red rash and until recently he still had red spots, a bit like hives, over his face back and tummy. He doesn't like lying down flat and we can't put him to sleep unless he's fallen asleep on our chest first.

We've been passed around a bit without many answers, just a see how you go this week and if it's no better, come back next week.. until today! I was there for myself but mentioned in passing his feeding and the doctor went through all his symptoms and suggested a cow's milk protein allergy. I've now cut out dairy from my diet and he prescribed some formula for us.

How long before we would expect an improvement? What happens next?! I've not used to formula yet - is it much different to what we had before? He said we'd know for sure in a few days, it would be quite clear if he had improved or not.

Any help would be great.. even suggestions for what I can or can't eat!

My son got diagnosed with cmpa by a allergist and the doctor it took a week with him on nutramigen to fully see the results , the vomiting stopped pretty much straight away as did the discomfort whist feeding but the bowl issues we had (explosive nappys weight loss ) took a few weeks and his skin a week or two

Oh and eating wise obviously stay away from anything with dairy in it and check labels for cassien and whey as these need to be avoided if you google cmpa there's a website with foods that are dairy free.
