I am a veggie and therefore used to eating soya. Occasionally after eating tvp particularly, I would get a bit gassy, but nothing spectacular.

But the other day I made a dish using soya mince and made 8 portions of it so I could freeze it for dinners at work. The other night I are some and almost immediately had crippling griping Abdo pain. I subsequently had diarrhoea for 3 days.

Tonight I tried it again and exactly the same thing happened. Stomach blew up like a balloon and I was in agony to the point I nearly fainted at work. Still in pain now and I ate it at 5pm!

I am going to have to throw the rest away aren't I? I seem to be fine with tofu and soy milk though, and no problems with Quorn either.

Anyone else suffer like this? I don't think it is a true "allergy" as I didn't vomit or get a rash/swelling etc.

Should mention I am quite "atopic" I get asthma triggered by cats, hay fever and am allergic to penicillin

Ok so now the diarrhoea has started! It was the same effect it had the other night in fact. Feel really dizzy too and my pulse is racing. Feel like death. Will definitely avoid in future! If the response hadn't been so consistent I would suspect I had food poisoning tonight!

Oh dear, you poor thing. Whilst it could be an intolerance, it is possible that there's something wrong with your bag of soya mince. Hope you feel better soon, and in the meantime, try and stay hydrated.

Well it tasted fine, and the pain etc was so instant I am inclined to think it was some kind of reaction rather than an infective process.

I have had milder symptoms before after eating it, but nothing this violent!

Ah, ok. Worth seeing your GP in due course to try and establish what this is and to rule out an allergy. And it might be worth keeping the packaging, or details on it for future reference. Although soya is a common allergen, it could be another ingredient in there that's the problem.
