Acorn allergy?

11mo tested positive for allergies to peanuts (v v high) and most treetops (lower, varied).. Not pine nuts. This evening she has had a reaction to something at a friends house - sudden bright red flushed face, crying, v v hot head, the odd small hive. The only thing I can possibly think it might be is she was touching some acorns which we moved from her a while before, we missed one which she might have licked and she was sucking her fingers anyway. Any experiences? Google suggests acorns are tree nuts but also that acorn allergy is unlikely... Have given Piriton.

acorns are not safe for anyone to eat, so allergy to acorns is unlikely.
washing hands after handling acorns is something that everyone should do really, certainly children who lick fingers.

however, food traces in home from carpet or sofas is possible.

or your child has got allergies to other plants in the summer season or animals/pets. etc

its often pretty difficult to pinpoint some of these hive type reactions.

my son had hives frequently during his first 5 yrs of life due to his environmental allergies and food ones.

piriton (given swiftly works very well with young children) and perhaps a wash/bath/ shower for contact reactions may just sort this out.

we only worry if hives are fast spread and large, or if any serious signs of breathing or blood pressure is compromised.

make a note of the episode on calendar and just in case its a seasonal reaction and keep a record to show allergy clinic or doctor if it similar things happen.

hope this is helpful. good luck, understand/remember the stress element of this VERY well!
