Does this sound like a nut allergy?

DD (12 months) had a whole nakd bar, which contains a high percentage of cashew.

There was no reaction thankfully. However a couple of hours later I noticed she had two very tiny hives on her back. I'm not sure if they are heat spots (it is mighty hot!) or a reaction?

I have seen her reaction to wheat and that is much much larger. So I'm not sure if I should keep giving her this nut in question?

Thanks Smile

No it doesn't, in all honesty. Most nut reactions seem to be very rapid in onset.

Having said that, I would still be extremely cautious about giving nuts (especially in quantity) if you have a child with a severe food allergy. You can also be tolerant of one type of nut and allergic to another e.g. my DD is allergic to cashew and peanut but not (I think) to almond. First reactions can be mild and subsequent ones much more unpleasant. Given the history, I'd be careful. Has she had skinprick tests to rule these out?

She's had skin prick tests for most nuts, and all came completely clear.

But having said that, her skin prick test for wheat and milk is completely clear too, but she definitely reacts to them both.

I'm just so unsure. Dietician thinks I should give nuts. I wouldn't be too fussed about leaving it out of diet, but DD has taken a liking to the nakd bar, and she is a v v v fussy eater, so I'm keen on keeping it in as it is nutritious.

It's all so confusing Sad
