Gluten free crisps suitable for children

My DC (age 5) has coeliac disease and I am finding it hard to find crisp that are gluten free.

I am looking for 'softer' crisp like quavers or wotsits.

M&S do a wotsit style that are gluten free but I cannot find any others.

Tia.

I think (but may be mistaken) that Pom bears are suitable? There is also a brand called Mrs Crimbles, where they do puffed up cheese triangles. They are heaven!

lovecake · 26/06/2014 13:05

Oh, I had forgotten about Pombears. Unfortunately, they don't like them. But good suggestion, thank you.

Will try the crimbles.

Popchips are GF, they are softer but only come in large packets. My Coeliac DCs have pombears, pop chips, kettles (not all flavours are GF) and Tyrells.

What about puffed rice type snacks? Snackajack do bite sized ones, not sure whether completely gluten-free.
Perhaps a quick look in a Chinese or Thai supermarket will also yield something rice-based or corn-based which might suit the "soft" preference you're looking for? I used to buy prawn crackers like this very cheaply and "do" them in the microwave without any oil.

Are the m&S wotsit style one dairy free too?

tkband3 · 27/06/2014 23:27

Sainsbury's own brand cheesy puffs are g-f, as are Asda ones.

lovecake · 29/06/2014 19:35

ShineSmile- sorry the m&s include cows milk.
Thanks for the suggestions.

I think Organix are GF. At least their "spicy tomato stars" are, taste quite nice too.

fusspot66 · 29/06/2014 23:45

Not exactly soft, but Seabrook crisis are gluten free.

notapizzaeater · 29/06/2014 23:55

We have the asda cheese puffs here. Prawn crackers ? Aldis are gf. Aldis normal crisps are mainly gf as well .

Theunincredibles · 30/06/2014 20:53

We have supermarket own cheesy puffs here.. Organix carrot crisps are GF too.

Pombears all the way for my coeliac 6yo and 4yo (and the hopefully-not-coeliac 3yo too). Not sure if all the flavours are gf, but the originals are and the new 'zoo' ones which the DC love.

nomdemere · 01/07/2014 13:15

Whoops, just seen your DC don't like bombers. Tesco do a crisp that's gluten-free and comes in a tube like Pringles. Might be worth trying?

My DC also like the Seabrooks crisps, again check the packet as I don't know if all flavours are, but we've had a few different flavours which have all been gf.

sammyad · 02/07/2014 17:44

Tesco's own brand crisps taste a lot like walkers and some flavours are GF. They don't specifically say they are but ingredients look fine and I've never reacted (and I react to EVERYTHING.)These are the cheese and onion ones but they have all the usual flavours I think.
