which ones is he taking? He could try a different one. Some people use loraditine, some use cetirizine. If neither of them help he should see a gp as there may be others he can try. Nasal sprays, eye drops, etc can also help

I'm finding the same this year OP. I feel miserable, so feel for you and your DH. I was talking to the pharmacist at my local chemist and he recommended pirinose spray. It takes a few days to work but is supposed to be very good. I asked him about it after a couple of mums I know mentioned that it was helping more than just pills.

I've been taking cetirizine and Loratidine, one morning and one at night, but they've been okay but not brilliant.

I,m starting the spray this evening so will let you know how I find it, if you're interested.

I,m wondering if I've actually started to develop some sort of resistance to the tablets as I've taken them for years for hayfever and have definitely noticed they become less effective with each passing year.

I,ve also tried hay ax, which is a blam that you put around your nostrils to catch pollen, but that worked for a bit but again not that well.

I've also hot one of those nose probes with red lights, medinose I think, and that was helpful, except we moved last year and I can't find mine anywhere. You could get a much cheaper version from Lloyds pharmacy if you're interested in looking into that. I found it especially helpful for clearing my very blocked but runny nose, ESP at night when this would be worse. One session of that and I could actually blow my nose, which meant relief which meant I could get to sleep.

Hope this helps and I hope you find something that works soon. Xxx

hay fever is especially bad this year.

Speak to GP

If he is taking cetrizine or loratatine he can also take chlorphenamine along with one of the other two.

also nasal sprays etc can help too.

Stopmithering · 23/06/2014 22:14

Had hay fever since being a teenager.
I use tablets alongside Beconase nasal spray. It does work well.
Also, for some reason (might be psychological) I find washing hands, face and hair regularly helps.

Ilikesweetpeas · 23/06/2014 22:16

I have found nasal spray good for me and dd alongside tablets. It takes a couple of weeks to work but is worth persevering with. Also GP can prescribe stronger antihistames.

Not used myself but read somewhere this is good, doesn't contain antihistamine so can use with tablets.

JontyMyers · 23/06/2014 23:13

he just uses supermarkets own brand hayfever tablets i am going to get him booked into the docs and ill show him the medinose too he's a tech geek so he'll love that Smile i think the piriteze spray would work best for him but he is a bit reluctant about spraying liquid up his nostrils

Beconase is very good.

WorkingBling · 23/06/2014 23:22

Definitely try a different active ingredient. Benadryl works for me. My mother can only use clarityn (or generics but I can never remember the active ingredient and neither can she so we mostly buy the branded stuff). Also a shower before bed, including hair washing, definitely helps a bit. Dh finds that especially true.

TortoiseUpATreeAgain · 23/06/2014 23:24

When it's bad I take a tablet (cetirizine hydrochloride), nasal spray (beclometasone dipropionate) and eye drops (sodium cromoglicate) -- just the tablet alone doesn't really touch it.

Fairylea · 23/06/2014 23:26

Fexofenadine from the gp is the only thing that even touches my hayfever.

Foreversara1 · 26/06/2014 15:17

hey everyone have you ever tried bee pollen. I suffer with hayfever slightly and this seems to help clear it up Smile

DorothyGherkins · 26/06/2014 15:21

Beconase (and the similar and cheaper Boots own) work well for me -takes a few days to get in the system though. No sneezing snot on my workshirts.

zone6mum · 26/06/2014 15:39

Try Lloyds Pharmacy's allergy reliever. Bought ours a couple of years ago so I can't recall how much it cost. You use it 2-3 times per day and it does something to the lining of your nasal passages which inhibits the production of histamines. DS and DH found it helpful. Also DH said Boots own brand tablets more effective than branded ones. He also recommends Sterimar saline nasal spray to give wash out the pollen. Been a nightmare summer for him though ... Good luck.
