Hayfever: do ionisers/purifiers work?

I get mild hayfever some years, but DS 12wks seems to be suffering rather badly. I thought he had a cold at 2wks, but it has never left him and has just got progressively worse as the weather has warmed up. Last night was awful, he is really uncomfortable and struggling to breath through all the snot. His eyes are red as well.

I have resolved to follow the general advice re. washing before bed, windows closed etc but am wondering if it is worth buying an ioniser. THey seem to have really mixed reviews and vary in price enormously. I would appreciate hearing if sufferers think they are worthwhile and any recommendations on what to buy (or not to buy).
TIA

also interested to know, as struggling here too with 8yr old

taking fexofenadine, piriton, beconase, eye drops, and asthma inhalers daily and still suffering.

also do the whole, wearing wrap around sun glasses, vaseline around the nose, not drying clothes outdoors, windows closed, washing and changing when get indoors etc etc. I think pollen levels are very high at the moment making it awful for all those hay fever sufferers our there.

Yes definitely bad at the mo, I don't generally suffer that much but even I can really feel it right now.
