Itchy baby - what next after cow's milk, soya?

BF baby, 6 months, terrible mucus nappies and eczema. Some improvement cutting out dairy, and definite flare when I had an inadvertent dose of dairy (instore bakery pancakes) Now 4 weeks completely clear and his skin has really flared up. He has sucked a couple of toast crusts -I've eaten lots of bread etc but does gluten/wheat protein pass into breastmilk in the same way as cows milk?

A couple of people I know have bad reactions to eggs, skin and stomach distress, so I wonder have you tried avoiding eggs?

However on the topic of wheat gluten I am not medical but fwiw think it is perfectly possible your DS cannot tolerate the gluten that you eat which then comes through your breastmilk.

I am reminded of a vegetarian friend. She exclusively breastfed her DD for the first few months. Unfortunately she found her DD had explosive bowel movements and was a sicky baby. During an elimination diet she tried with professional consultation she discovered that whereas stopping her dairy intake made no difference but switching from gluten to soyabean meat substitutes made a marvellous change. Result one gurgling happy DD no diarrhea nor puking.

I assume you have your GP on board? It must be distressing but once identified I am sure there will be support groups, best wishes for a diagnosis.

there can be milk in bread, have you checked the ingredient label? also soya is common in bread as well, and as milk and soya allergies /intolerance go hand in hand at times it might be not be a good idea to give soya yet.

I would leave gluten until 12 months and take medical advice on weaning with a established dairy intolerance.

damaged guts take a while to heal and often don't digest some foods for a while. so leave it a while before retrying any soya or gluten so you can see a clearer picture of reaction.
I 2nd the idea of seeing GP and asking for referral to a pead

Cheers - gp on board -in fact recommended the dairy free diet initially - and it definitely did improve at first but I'm at my wits end and the poor wee one looks like he's been through a hedge backwards. On a positive note, I'll check my loaf didn't have sneaky milk and have managed another GP appointment for Mon. And hopefully my paediatric dietician appointment will be through soon...

My baby is allergic to dairy, soya, egg and wheat (and nuts)

We got rid of dairy, soya and egg pretty early on. She still kept having an odd rash here and there. I only clicked on after while that it could be wheat.

Btw after milk, eggs are the most common food allergen. There's a complete guide to food allergy and intolerance by prof .... That is definitely worth buying and reading!

Milk and soy both binned but I have a sneaky feeling about mayo -and egg. Of course it could be pollen related and not dietary...

I agree with being ultra careful with dairy and soy. Most breads contain soy, as I found out after giving it to DS once he started solids. He also reacts to soy lectithins. Some mayo has cream powder added - Hellmans light for example.
