SOOO…I posted last week about DS being ?? dairy intolerant. My HV had suggested it may be the case as he had reflux/constipation/squirming at night/sneezing/congestion..I cut dairy out for 3/52 (with the odd slip up) & then had a BIG slice of fresh cream cake at his Christening 13 days ago & he began having up to 12/14 horrendous slimy mucousy nappies a day, was generally unsettled, & very congested. He'd never been that bad before that.

Day 13 today of no dairy at all. Yesterday & today only one dirty nappy. He's slept through the night for the past 5 nights & has been a much happier boy (though TBH he's an easy going baby anyway).

Problem? Well, the one dirty nappy he's having is still very mucousy & slimy. Is this 'normal'? Does this sound like CMPI to all of you who know it? Should I cut Soyaout this week also? His reflux is unchanged & possibly even worse this week. Though it doesn't seem to bother him too much. Should I not expect to see his reflux improve if he is CMPI & these 'problems' are linked?

I would cut out all forms of dairy.
I would not expect his gut to go back to normal quickly.
It can take weeks for gut to heal as its in use all the time and can not rest.
I would consider medical check up for dehydration after loosing so much fluid through the nappies. Am aware that some children with such a severe intolerance can also throw up continuously as well as having loose bowels, and this is a problem that may need medical help for dehydration.
I would make sure that all food and milk does not contain any traces of milk for some months to give his gut time to heal. He may find during this time of poor gut health that he will find other foods difficult to digest in the short term. So its important that you stay clear of milk for long term health iyswim.

try reading ' guild to food allergies and intolerance ' by prof Brostoff, published by Gamlin.

I'd second the advice about that book, it really is very very thorough.
