Does he have an allergy or an intolerance?

DS2 has suffered quite badly from eczema from about 3 months old. As a result we took things fairly slowly on the weaning front and introduced wheat and dairy after he was one. (He is now 20 months.)

He had some yoghurt on a few occassions and seemed ok, although his eczema did worsen a ittle. However I began to notice that he came up in a rash on his face after we went to a certain coffee shop (one that did kids meals that included a cream cheese bagel). Then on one visit to the coffee shop he smeared some cheese on his face. He came up in a nettle like rash immediately on his face and by the following evening he had full on hives.

I cut out dairy from his diet following this for a while. On attempting to reintroduce dairy(in the form of yoghurt/cream cheese) he comes up in a rash around his mouth and on his neck.

He seems ok if he has something like a crisp that might contain dairy in it and has had small amounts of chocolate and has not reacted. However on one occassion he had a chocolate biscuit and again came up in a rash around his mouth.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

Does it sound like an allergy or an intolerance?

Holly

Forgot to mention that we also had a hives incident plus a really stinky green poo at 11 months after he may have had a piece of his brother's macaroni cheese.
Not 100% sure if he had any but if he did this would have been his first dairy.

The only other possible thing that may have triggered the hives is the consumption of some red paper . Found the remains of it in his nappy.

Contact Hives/Urticaria is a sign of a cows milk protein allergy. It could be that he also is sensitive to nuts/sesame seeds which are quite prevalent in bakery-type goods.

I would suggest you stop giving products with cows milk protein in, and as your GP if he can be referred for allergy testing to find out exactly what he does react to.
