Virus making him more sensitive, or allergic reaction after contact?

Hi. 14mo son has allergy to dairy, egg, peanut, soya and tomato. Of those, he's only had tomato first hand - the rest were tested positive before weaning so the only experience we have of an allergic reaction is bad eczema after having tomato.

On Friday we were in a cafe and he managed to touch the quiche on someone else's plate. I washed his hands, but within an hour his eczema was really bad on his face. The next day he was really subdued and quite grumpy, and by lunchtime his temp had shot up to 39.5 and we were told by our out of hours doctor to take him to hospital to get him checked out. We were told it was probably just a virus.

Since Friday lunchtime the eczema on his face has got worse immediately after every meal (no new foods) and he has hives all over his torso and forehead. I can't work out whether a virus would lower his immunity so maybe he'll be extra-sensitive to food for the duration, or whether actually these could all be symptoms of an allergic reaction?

I know I'm asking a question that's almost impossible to answer but just wanted to get your thoughts based on your own experiences.

Thanks

Mm personally I'd call 111 to get advice as I don't like the sound of the hives. But it may be he is reacting slowly or the change in air temperature is affecting as well? Good luck x

Thanks - spoke to them before checking on here! They have said it's urticaria (sp?!) - the body can release loads of histamine if there's a bit of a virus going on, which causes all the hives. They've said to just give him piriton and it should go after a couple of days.
