Dairy and soy free pudding ideas

Swannykazoo · 09/05/2014 17:14

On week 2 of my dairy and soy exclusion. LO is 4 months and EBF. Great ideas for snacks etc but am really missing puddings. Have made birds custard with coconut milk chilled with raspberries as a yoghurt substitute and a dairy free trifle based on the same. I suppose there's jelly made with coconut/almond milk to make a sort of blancmange. Haven't seen Oatley cream in any supermarkets but I'll keep hunting.
Any other top ideas?

You can buy coyo yogurts and wot no dairy yoghurts, in health food shops.

A great one for little ones is to freeze banana, it is like ice cream.

Some of the Pearce's blancmange powders are dairy and soya free.

I also used to whizz up Oatly cream with fruit.

Things like apple crumble and apple pie are easy to make dairy and soya free.

Look up vegan desserts or cake recipes for other ideas.

I'd also look up paleo desserts as they should be dairy and soya free.

Try the intolerant gourmet.

She does food that is egg, wheat, and dairy free. I have never noticed soya in her recipes, but, as we have a soya intollerance in the family, if she did, I would simply substitute rice milk or almond milk.

There are two cook books, but she has loads of recipes online, as well.

Fab - off to make nigella's choc cake for pudding, and the intolerant gourmet's smoked salmon pate for lunch. You guys rock

Meringue or pavlova is good if you can have egg. I don't know of you can whip oat cream or not though.

Melt dairy free chocolate, dip in strawberries then pop in fridge. Yummy and super quick and easy.

Sometimes we make fruit skewers and put the melted chocolate on the table for dipping.

This is my favourite quick pud - melt 100g bar of dark dairy free choc with 1 can of good quality coconut milk. Stir in flavouring if you like - e.g. cinnamon, ginger or orange essence or just leave plain. Then pour into 4 small cups and set in the fridge for an hour - sooo delicious. Here's a few other ideas on my blog - mydaughterwontsleep.com/gfrecipes/
I find coconut oils works well in replacement for butter - I use it in a flapjack recipe of mine - totally yum.
Also melted marshmallows make a good dairy free icing!
Good luck.

Avoid too many free from products as very processed and usually full of fructose glucose syrup (and expensive) stewed fruit, fresh fruit, homemade crumbles, dark chocolate, nuts, meringue, homemade cakes, pancakes and biscuits are some of our gf/df alternatives (using vegetable spread, gf flour, coconut milk)
