Is it really a CMP intolerance or behavioural?

Hi :-)
Baby is 5 months old. Since around 4 months old started thrashing and pounding legs all through night. Some nights with a few hours respite in between, some not. Leaving her quite tired in day.
Generally well. Gaining weight.
No diarrhoea no spitting up no vomiting.
Bowel movement stopped being regular at same time (up to 10 days). Now approx once per week. Can be quite farty.
Has eczema but i did quite bad as child so was at high risk of this anyhow.
EBF.
No hives or other rashes.

Gp suggested removing dairy which I have for 2 weeks. Possibly slight improvement with thrashing but still there. Slightly less thrumpy but still there.
Eczema no better (maybe worse).

Ive read on here that babies 4 to 6 months can do all sorts of crazy behaviour especially at night due to developmental changes. So Im now thinking is this a behavioural thing? Or just pure gas thing due to changes in bowel or an intolerance?

What do you think?
Im going to continue for a further week and then possibly test it out by re introducing a little dairy. Can any body suggest how much and when do you think I will see the effects if any?
I have quite fast bowel transit / metabolism.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks :-)

I dont think it sounds much like cmpi to be honest. Perhaps shes practising crawling/rolling in sleep?

Did you eliminate soy too? The proteins are similar so there is a big cross over.

DS has more problems with soy than dairy.

I hadn't been as strict with soya but didnt use soya milk and butter etc and kept it to a low.
LO has been worse for last few days and now im wondering if it was egg noodles with soy sauce on that set her off. As it is perhaps the only unregular thing I ate.
Oh jeeze seems like im going to have tp try that then!
So can you eat dairy superworm??
Also what was your childs symptoms? As mines not got too many, mainly the night thrashing and wind.

Thanks

I'm dairy and soy free - it was difficult in the beginning but I'm so used to it now it's second nature. Tbh I wasn't very strict with the soy in the first few months as I didn't realise how sensitive he was.

His symptoms with dairy and soy vary slightly.

Dairy = greenish poo, mucousy sounding chest. Soy = vomiting and mucous in poo. All poo's are very acrid with a distinctive smell and burn his bum quickly.

Both cause reflux, poor sleep and make him really farty. He has pretty much always been a happy chap aside from night time when he would wake and cry a lot. It's the build up of wind I think.

It took me ages to really identify what his symptoms were as their poo does change with colds etc and the symptoms are not immediately obvious.

Thanks for reply and if you dont mind coukd I ask if you started weaning? And how that went?
Also did u consider any of the special formula's?
Had another crap night waking every 2/3hrs thrashing then crying. Feeding seemed to irritate tummy and very farty.
Its a nightmare thinking it could be any number of things. Certainly not dairy or just dairy.
I wonder if she ne better on special formula?
That's if she'd have it, only ever being breastfed.
Thanks for the input x

My daughter was the same with cow's milk and gluten (EBF) thrashing and very wriggly at night disturbed sleep, but okay with sheep and goat- much better once I stopped eating it.

She's 3 now and still gets 'wild' if she has it accidentally, though doesn't seem to have any other symptoms - other than a bit constipated with the gluten. Have you done a food diary? It helped me alot. Also I tried rotating foods, not eating the same thing every day.
Here's my blog post on it if you're interested mydaughterwontsleep.com/2013/12/08/a-sensitive-issue/ Good luck.

If I were you I would ask for a referral to an allergy paediatric specialist. Especially because your LO has eczema too. Whereabouts are you based? If in London, a lot of people highly recommend the allergy clinic at st Thomas/evelina.

Do dirty I thought I had replied. DS is two now and doing really well with food. I have to be careful at nursery still and parties etc.

Weaning was difficult as lots of foods have soy in but I didn't realise Blush

I did try neocate when he was about 9 months but it made him unsettled so I continued to breastfeed. I have found it useful having the same diet as him as it helps me know what food and it doesn't contain.

How are you getting on?
