hayfever - best OTC medicine.

ds is nearly 4, and appears to have hayfever. He spent yesterday and last night with nose streaming (clear snot) and his eyes are red. He is disabled and struggles when he has a cold, so this is a bit of a nightmare and I ended up spending half the night sat up with him, as he was snoring and struggling with th amount of snot.

I will take him to the gp on Tues, but just wondered what the best OTC medicine would be? I would like to avoid Piriton, as he takes medication for sleep and wouldn't want to mess that up.

Thankyou.

most of the others are for age 6+ so piriton may be the only option unless your gp prescribes it.

you could try a saline nasal spray to help clear some of the snot

Thanks ilove, I have found some cetrizine in the medicine cupboard, which was prescribed for dd2, and looking at the bottle it has a dosage for 2-5, I think I will try some of that and see if it helps - he is just awash with snot, poor boy.

Oh dear, cetrizine made no difference. Will have to wait for gp, he is a mess.

maybe he does have the cold or a flu type thing rather than hayfever

Ugh, I hope not (not that i want him to have hayfever, obviously!) He is supposed to be having a general anaesthetic on Weds, we have already had to cancel once because of a vomiting bug.

he is rubbing his nose and eyes a lot more than he normally does when he has a cold, and the snot is a lot clearer and runnier (sorry TMI!), which is what led me to think hayfever.
