Tree pollen/hayfever and depression

Does anyone know about depression and hayfever? Several years ago I noticed that in April, I start feeling ridiculously lethargic, am grumpy/moody, get very tearful very easily - just want to crawl under the duvet and stay there. I have not been diagnosed with depression, but I guess that this is what it feels like.

A random lady on the bus said that she feels the same each year - she thought that it was down to tree pollen and that anti histamine would help. I do find that it's not so bad after a hayfever tablet, but doesn't go altogether. Today has been awful. Anyone else suffer from this or think that I'm not going totally bonkers?

I thought that it was just me but yes definitely. I am on fexofenadene now which seems to work better than piriton

Dh came home last night and said that everyone knows that it's Birch pollen! Well I didn't.

I've been using loratadine - will give fexofenadine a try.

Goodness, that's interesting op. DS 1 (10) has hay fever triggered at this time of year. It was awful last year, not so bad this April. But, mood wise, he has been very much as you describe. It obviously could be just normal developmental, but I had been wondering if feeling unwell was a factor.

I can so sympathise with him. I get no sneezing at all in April/early May, so there is no clue as to what is causing it, just this awful awful tiredness/grumpiness. It clears suddenly if it rains and at about 8pm at night, when I guess the pollen levels fall. Last night I was literally skipping around the house, having been lethargic all day.

I'm on fexofenadine too - it's prescription I think so you'll have to go to the dr to get it. However when I run out I use certirizine, I find loratadine doesn't work at all and I feel awful all the time - trying swapping around the different anti histamines as it might help

I know exactly how you feel, nurse said to me last week that this is the worse and earliest hayfever season she has know due to fact we didn't really have a winter this year, just lots or rain which has made trees really potent this year :(

Glad - well not glad but ykwim - to hear I'm not the only one. I have no history of depression but with hay fever which seems to be getting a little worse every year, this month I've felt horrible, absolutely black dog and awful. Thanks for the tips above.
