Recommendations for sunscreen for eczema?

Hi all

Just that really. DD is cmp and egg intolerant and has eczema. Finally getting it under control but she still has bouts if itchiness. Worried about spending so much on testing several brands of sunscreen if it's just going to make her more itchy!!
Any recommendations for sensitive skin?

I suffer from it too and found the best sunscreen is zinc based stuff - so not a chemical sunscreen, rather a sun barrier and the zinc is good for skin too!! My fave is invisible zinc (Aussie one you can get in selfridges and online) a bit more expensive but a little goes a long was and it is also sorta moisturising too Grin

P20 is another option - doesn't cause a reaction for my DD but does dry out her skin quite a lot, so not perfect. Might give the zinc suggestion a try this year then - thanks justgot

Sun sense

Second the P20 - it did dry out 1 ds but not the other.
I also used the Avons kids range in factor 50 and 30 without problems too.I'm going back around 5-6 years though so check they haven't changed ingredients before buying.

Ultrasun might be worth a look
All day suncream, that come in a few different types (I believe there is a zinc based baby one - however, my dcs got on better with the standard factor30 one)

Wow those zinc ones sound ideal! I have some p20 kicking about so I'll also give that a try. I'll have a look at what I can get today! Now hoping for some Scottish sunshine Grin

Hi LindsayS79. My dd rarely wears any due to many allergy problems. Dermatologist basicly told me not to use any at all. However, generally we dont. Dd is allergic to so much and is anaphylactic to peanuts. Don't like to knock what others have mentioned but dd reacted badly to zinc once with a zip sock type thing impregnated with it in the dermatology clinic. so always been wary of zink. It made her dig her legs to blood and fleshy holes yuk. As for sensense, was prescribed this once (roll on) and put it on her face resulting in total eczema which she had never had on her face before. It was very perfumy. In desperation we tried buying the sunsense sensitive online which I don't think was too bad but she did get a few mystery spotty pimples on her arms. Boots Soltan kids sensitive states reduces the risk of skin allergies and was the last one we bought and the lovely chemist lady said any problems and they would refund us! we bought it just because she was going on a beach trip with school and I just put it on her nose/cheeks for surfing and she wore sun safe clothing/wet suit. It was ok. No adverse effects but have not used it other than that. I found boots chemist very helpful but do chat to them and check ingredients as we have different allergies to you. Dds was ultra light suncare lotion dermatologist approved extra water resistant 50+ spf uvb

Oh dear, that sounds terrible! I know a lot is trial and error with eczema (experienced this with moisturiser!) so I guess I'll go through that with the sun screen..! making do with sun hats etc at the mo!

I initially used nothing. dd wore long white tops and trousers in summer.
I found the only one she tolerated was green people once she wasn't raw from scratching.
now years on with eczema mostly gone we use Le Roche Pasay.

seoda24 · 29/04/2014 21:49

I am interested too in the responses.I have tried so many and cannot find a suitable one.I wonder is there such a thing as I have severe eczema and allergies. My only solution is staying indoors and that makes me so annoyed.Roche Posay gave me the worst reaction so everyone is different. Is there such a thing as a medicated suncream from a specialist for people with severe allergies/ skin conditions??

Chopsypie · 29/04/2014 21:56

Both of my DC have execma and I use the boots sensitive range. So far they haven't reacted. Can you maybe take them into a shop once a week and have a cheeky spray of one at a time and see if they react? Then you won't spend too much before you buy!

Sunsense toddler milk. Think it was recommended a few years ago on here, dd now 6 and still using it. I'm also using the normal Sunsense suncream myself as I have sensitive skin.

DS has eczema and we use sunsense F 50, Have also found that Green people works for him (and is half the price of sunsense) but only goes up to f25
