My lo is 13 months, on aptamil pepti2 for 3 months now. Gp started prescribing it after they got a letter from pead, and yesterday i have got a rejection letter saying, i should wean him off. Is it the normal response? Also he is allergic to nuts and soya. Please help me think straight. Thanks

Hi, Deepz. This sounds a bit strange, especially as it was first prescribed following a letter from the paediatrician. Was your DC diagnosed with an immediate or delayed allergy to cow's milk protein? If it is a delayed allergy then they may think that perhaps your DC has outgrown it? After a long battle to get an allergy diagnosis and then a prescription, my DS was prescribed Pepti 2 from 7 months old to the age of 3. However, his may be an unusual case because he has loads of other severe food allergies, so we had to make sure he was getting the right nutrients. Have you had any advice from a dietician?

Hi cameorole, thank you. i am seeing a pead and a dietician for his allergies, infact saw the pead previous friday. She actually asked me to triple his milk intake, as he is only having 120mls per day. He is still allergic and am on a dairy free diet as am still breast feeding, trying to stop, coz of endless nipple bleeding and soreness.. He gets hives if he touches anything dairy ( started noticing when we tried to introduce formula when he was five months, and developed hives all over, even though he dint drink any from it. Then gp sent for a RAST on cheese, butter, nuts, coconut etc. and it shows allergic to all that. Saw the dietician in jan and she also asked me to continue with pepti. How can gp jsut say they cant prescribe!! Coz it is expensive.??? Anyidea what alternative i have?

I've been through this twice Sad my advice is to contact the pead, tell him what the drs have said and let him take over for you, its the only thing thats ever worked for me! I've shouted and cried at drs who wanted to take milk off my babies. All because 'its too expensive for us to keep prescribing' a fax from the pead should sort it out pretty shapish though.

I've also had to buy tins of milk before just to tide me over until it has been sorted. Its so expensive, but what choice do we have Sad

Cbeebies, i may have to do that as well. Really hope, the gp sort it out herself. Talked to another gp today, and he is going to talk to this senior one. But decision making is "hers". So i really dont have any hope. Otherwise, i have another appointment in May with dietician. i have to buy it myself till then. Are you still getting prescription for this? Wondering wthr this is some sort of "latest cut" by nhs/gps

no no no, dont wait for an appointment, phone your pead's secretary - the phone number will be on the letter they send out to you after the appointment, and if its not google his name and you should find a link you can click on at the hospital which lists all the consultants and how to contact them (can you tell I've done this before!)

Do not leave it till next appointment, ring tomorrow and it will be sorted by the end of next week at the latest. Honestly, the secatery will be used to taking calls, she sends a note to the pead who will call you next time they're working (I've had dd2's call at 11pm because that was the only time in his shift he could get a quiet moment, but they DO call back)

Don't worry about annoying them, its what they are there for. CALL THE SECRETARY!!!
