If your dc1 has allergies what did you do about dc2?

Dc1 is allergic to dairy, egg, nuts and fish. I now have dd2 who is nearly 3 months old and currently ebf. She has recently started to get eczema on her face and I'm starting to wonder if she is reacting to something in my breastmilk.
If your dc2 has allergies how did you find out? It doesn't help that we now live in a different area so have GPs who aren't familiar with dc1's history of allergies. At our recent visit to the doctors the GP suggested if I wanted to find out I should try to give her formula which I thought was rather Hmm. I'm planning to breastfeeding for as long as possible but with dc1 there was a massive improvement when she went onto Neocate.

Would the best way to find out be to remove it from your diet and see if the rash goes away?

I'd also ask for a referal to an allergist

Yes I think I am going to have to start cutting dairy out and see what happens .
I did mention to GP about allergy testing at our last appointment but she sort of fobbed it off and said she wouldn't actually be allergic yet until directly exposed to it I.e. Formula.

DD was tested at 6 months before weaning because DS had so many allergies. It showed she was only allergic to egg.

I was really hyper alert when bfing her, to see if there were any reactions to what I was eating. The one time I had egg, her face went absolutely scarlet and she was very unsettled, so I had been avoiding it.

Think it might be worth keeping a food diary of what you eat (that's how I diagnosed DS1's allergies, which were later confirmed by a specialist).

My DS2 is showing no signs of allergy at 17 months old - he has not been tested and and I think the tests would come up negative anyway as he has never been exposed to any of DS1's allergens (even during pregnancy or in breastmilk as I was/am still breastfeeding DS1 and avoiding all those foods).

Advice from DS1's allergy consultant is to continue as we are, avoiding all of DS1's allergens for both children.

It is possible to feed children a balanced diet while avoiding some foods.

The crazy suggestion of giving your baby formula is sadly typical of GPs who have little training in allergy Sad Could you talk to your DC1's consultant?
