my son ended up on lactose free milk for over 12 months because he was vomiting he also had a reflux so was on gaviscon when i remove the gaviscon around 12 months he began to have upset stomach constantly so we went to see a dietitian who told he he had a CMP intolerance we took him off the formula and began soya it was awful like turning a tap on in his nappies so we switched to almond hazelnut oat loads of other milks and he reacted to everyone so we went back on the formula he had also been reacting to wheat and eggs we went back to the doctors who referred us to the paediatrician and he decided to do pin prick allergy tests

he didn't react to a single one Confused we put him back on wheat too for a few weeks because he told us to so he could have a blood test but he didn't do it because he was crying (he always cries at doctors) but he reacted to nothing at all not the egg nothing now he wants us to continue with the wheat and begin adding milk and possibly egg my husband wants to give him an egg sandwich immediately im more cautious he still has a bad tummy and the egg was such a severe reaction im uncertain

he wants us to meet him again in a couple of weeks i think he is a good doctor actually as he is seeing us very regularly

does anyone know why he didnt react to the skin tests? i really thought the egg one would react his reaction was so strong when he ate it!

He doesn't have an allergy so skin tests are useless. That doesn't mean he isn't intolerant. I would suggest getting intolerance testing. I used this company: www.yorktest.com

And I would NOT give him any if the things the GP has told you to, it will likely end up making him sick and in pain Hmm

Your doctor may want him back on wheat in order to test for coeliac disease. Unfortunately the only way to test for coeliac is to consume gluten for several weeks and then do a blood test. It's not uncommon for coeliac a to have other intolerances, mainly lactose, but this often goes once the gut has healed.
There us also a hydrogen breath test they can do to test for lactose intolerance, my DS had this at 3yo, they have to be able to blow, so your LO might be too young.
Is it your GP you are seeing? It's great that he is taking your LOs issues seriously but it may be time for a paediatric referral.
On other question, how is you LOs weight gain?

This is interesting because my DD has also had skin prick tests for all of the common allergens and everything has corm back completely clear, but the truth is she is definitely allergic to cows milk, egg and we suspect wheat too. So I have no idea why the prick test didn't pick it up.

Allisgood, that is very expensive!! Can't the NHS do intolerance tests?

allisgood1 · 12/04/2014 21:36

I don't think they do. They definitely showed no interest in doing it for me...

ArtFine · 12/04/2014 21:47

Allisgood, did the tests confirm what you thought your LO was intolerant to? Any surprises?

allisgood1 · 13/04/2014 01:06

The surprise was dairy and soy. Wasn't expecting that. Everything else was expected.

Allisgood, thanks. The York test website says it can't be used for under 2s!
