Eczema/fungal advice sought!

If the eczema has a fungal infection and is treated with Canestan, how many days does it take to start showing results? I have only been treating for 24hrs so far but it is no better at all and I had sort of thought it might be quite quick....and am wondering if it is not a fungal infection....
Anyone with any advice please?

the largest circle is under one arm, below the arm pit.

sounds stupid but I am not sure....I think to be honest it has been pretty much like that for over two weeks...which is why I suspect it might be paddling pool...it si not overly itchy though which I think comes with bacterial infection...admittedly from MY experience of own eczema when I had it really bad on hands 3 yrs ago.

dd1 usual atopic eczema is awful atm, but isnt covering as much surface area as dd3, but its dd1 who is suffering.

funny old thing eczema.

marz · 08/08/2006 23:05

but how big are your circles?
We have small ones and big ones...under arms are quite different to eczema, they really look like red blotches but not really dry.

larger ones are smaller than a tennis ball, but bigger than a golf ball. some are very small about a finger nail size.

dd1 is almost clear. She has one patch of very persistent eczema on 1 finger and then heat rash occasionally in heat on backs of knees, otherwise aveeno is her drug!

well I will let you know what my GP says. although I don't know how much of what they say is just them agreeing with me! If I said nothing, they might just diagnose eczema for me....!!!

I'm no expert other than my daughter got severe eczema at about 1 year. None of the icky creams and lotions the doctor gave seemed to work then someone recommended Dream Cream from Lush. Not kidding, one application and her skin began clearing up over night. She's now approaching two and we apply it all over her body at night and also use Dream Wash in the bath instead of soap. Her skin is smooth as a babies bottom now!!!

kittywits · 17/08/2006 20:29

CAW1 does it really work? at the mo the only thing that will shift dd2's eczema is a very stong steroid cream called elocon (sp?) works, but i don't like to use it. Her skin is just soooo scaly, itchy and dry all the time. Does this dream cream keep it soft?

Loon · 17/08/2006 20:33

I didn't believe it when a fellow mum at the baths recommended it but I will never use anything else. It costs about £7 and believe me it's worth every penny. My DD's skin would crack even when using powerful steroid cream but the Dream Cream soothed and smoothed. My attitude to start with was 'I'll give anything a go' and don;t regret it. We don;t use slippy emollients in her bath, just plain water and wash her with the Dream Wash.

Changed my nickname from CAW1 if you're wondering who this is!

Cheers for that, I'll go and get some this weekend, it gets a really good write up on their website. Have you tried any other of the dream products ?

morocco · 17/08/2006 20:44

d'you know, I ws just about to post (and felt a bit bad cos you ladies sound like you know all the ropes and it is preaching to the converted) thad ds2's excema is brilliantly controlled since I started putting an essential oil mix in his normal cream. Then I googled the dream cream and it's the exact same essential oils! So you could give that a go and see if it works as well but cheaper. It's a drop of rose, 2 of lavender and 2 of chamomile or you can put a drop less of chamomile and add tea tree if it's a bit infected. ds2 doesn't have bad excema but I know this has also worked well for friends whose kids had fairly bad excema. hth

kittywits · 17/08/2006 20:52

Hi Morocco, how much oil do you put into how much cream?

morocco · 17/08/2006 20:58

I usually decant about 50mls of his usual cream into a smaller cleaned out tub of face cream and then add one drop of each, check it doesn't seem too overpowering, then add another drop of lavender (it pours out of the bottle if you're not careful!) and chamomile. The strong smell goes after a week or so but the 'power' remains so long as you keep the lid on tight and keep it out of the sun.

kittywits · 17/08/2006 21:07

Does the rose oil have to be the essential oil, sorry, questions, questions?

Loon · 17/08/2006 21:56

not tried any others but they've just started a bath bomb. suppose i've not tried any others as i haven't needed to but wouldn't hesitate to do so.

Hi,just posted a message on wrong topic board!Anyway all you mums out there with children with eczema-my now 12 yr old son who had eczema from 3 mths started taking Eye_Q oil three years ago for ADHD and a fab side effect was the total clearing up of his skin!No Moisturising,non-bio etc.His skin is a bit dry,but no longer have to slather with gunk or steroids.Maybe coincidence but I think not.
