My DS2 (aged 5) has a dairy intolerance to lactose and CMP.

Last year he informed me ketchup made him feel funny so stopped having it. No biggie as it's not something used much.

But last week he said his mouth felt funny after eating some pasta which had chicken in it with a tomato pasta sauce. His lips were swollen so gave him an anti-histamine. Didn't really think anything about it as he had a bit of a cold and and thought it was that ( I know..stupid me...)

The same has happened this evening with a chilli I made ( full of tomato puree and a can of chopped toms).

Yet he had baked beans last week and was ok with that and cherry toms...

tomatos very high in histamine, so can be a problem for people with allergies.

my son cant eat fresh tomatos but now can eat tinned and ketchup. But when younger he couldnt.

ripe tomatos would be more of a problem as higher in histamine.

my son has high tree pollen, and other environmental allergies, and all are linked.
tree pollen often cross reacts with other fruit, so he has OAS (oral allergy syndrome) to other fruit, strawberries, mango, pineapple and tomatos.

hope this helps.

Thanks Eragon, that's interesting.

Did he undergo tests and what sort?

he has had skin prick tests for all environmental allergies (yes got all of them) was given nasal sprays, eye drops and antihistamine for dust mite and others etc.
We also changed his bedroom our house and brought allergy bedding, and changed our laundry habits. This helped control his rhinitis and eczema.

however you can ask for a blood test from GP a RAST test.

have you been referred to a pead allergy clinic or are you under a pead at a local hospital?

what support have you had re allergies?

Our allergy doc of the time explained the tomato stuff, and the OAS is something he has developed as he has got older. my son cant eat marmite/yeast extact for similar reasons.

we have never tried game either as its high in histamine due to the hanging etc.
