Hair dye skin test - slightly red and irritated, do I go ahead?

Hi all,

First post here, be nice! :)

Right - yesterday I went into a salon and got a skin test done with L'Oreal copper-coloured hair dye. Within 15 minutes the skin under the test was slightly red, irritated and a tiny bit swollen, but no other symptoms anywhere else on the body and I felt fine.

Should I go ahead with the dye-job on Saturday?

I should mention that the last time I had my hair dyed was about 3 months ago with the same brand of dye, and the skin test that time showed similar effects (but when I actually had the dye applied in the salon, my scalp was totally fine).

I'm thinking that I want to go ahead with it, because the skin test hasn't caused any actual allergic reactions, just a bit of localised irritation. PLUS I have had the exact same situation a few months ago, and nothing went wrong on the day.

Does anyone here have any stories about going through with hair dye after skin tests have caused small redness/soreness?

Many thanks!

Bobby

It's your call but personally I wouldn't go there. Just because you have got away with it the past couple of times doesn't mean you will this time. full effect allergic reactions can come out of the blue with hair dyes, even if you've used it many times before.

Maybe there's a different type of dye they can try on you.. it doesn't have to be that one.

Again, it's your call.

You're probably right... I guess I just really want to get it done asap...

Hopefully the salon does some different kinds of dye that won't disagree with me. :)

Thanks

every time I do a patch test I pray to jebus that it doesn't irritate. I would be hard pressed without my hair dyes. I pulled out about 12 hairs before 1 gray once. It was traumatic seeing that first gray Hmm

Most hairdressers will use a dye you take in as well if you want to have a look for yourself (well mine does).. do the patch test at home type of thing.

Holland and Barrett do a chemical free natural hair dye which is really good, no parabens and other nasties in it. I'm rather allergic to all sorts and this suits me. Do a nice copper colour too.
