My baby is 8 months and has her first allergy appointment at St Mary's Paddigton on Monday. Has anyone been before or to an allergy clinic with such a young baby before? I'm not sure what to expect.

We are seeing Dr Boyle, has anyone seen him before? I've been waiting for this appointment since she lost consciousness in October after an ounce of formula milk and 5 food allergies were confirmed. I chased the appointment yet again today and when they said the earliest appointment would be the end of March I broke down in tears and they have given me one for Monday. I have been so desperate for her to have the appointment hoping she has outgrown some and now I'm suddenly terrified that it'll just confirm how allergic she is. Feeling very under prepared so any experiences anyone can share would be great.

Don't give any piriton if you can help it for 48 hours before going. (Other antihistamines are 1week so too late if she has had any of those!) Thye may want to do skin prick tests and at histamines could mask the results.

My DS and Dd were both 6 months when they were both seen at an allergy clinic. They had skin prick tests where they drop a small amount of liquid containing e allergen they are testing into the skin and prick through the skin. This has never bothered either of my kids so can't be sore. They then wait 15 mins to see what reaction there is. They may also take blood for other allergy tests.

They normally only test once a year, if that, so I would try and not get your hopes up particularly as it hasn't been very long since she was last tested. My DS has multiple food allergies and although he outgrew some, he is now 7 and it looks unlikely he will outgrow any more. He is still allergic to egg, nuts, milk and doesn't tolerate legumes well.

Thanks trixy, that's useful advice. Has the extent of your DS' allergies altered at all? I hope he grows out of some more.

DD is allergic to dairy, egg, nut, soy and wheat and I just want them all to go away although I know they won't.

Thanks babybarrister, that's interesting to know. I hope your DS' allergies reduce in severity in time if that's possible.

We're actually going to a workshop this week which I'm sure will be really useful, there is so much about daily life we're uncertain about right.now.

His allergies have reduced. He used to be extremely allergic to milk to the extent that I couldn't take him in coffee shops where they were steaming milk. He now no longer reacts on skin contact.

I'd love all DS's allergies to go away, but I know they are unlikely to now Sad.
