Cows milk protein allergy - black poo?

My LO is 15 weeks - she's had silent reflux since a week old and suspected cows milk protein allergy. Since a recent bout of bronchiolitis she will only sleep on my chest (nightmare I am trying to undo) and the last 2-3 nights she's been sleeping fitfully as if she has chronic wind, waking to cry which is unusual for her at night, and the back arching after every feed has started again.

I'm breast feeding so have had to give up all dairy. Her poo has been black for the last 3 nappies and I'm worried that I've accidentally eaten dairy. This might explain the flaring up pg her reflux. Does anyone else have experience of this?

Thanks for your help! x

Could have written this myself- my dd has cows mulk allergy and had reflux too. The only answer for us afyer 6 weeks in hell were nutrimegen formula on prescription and infant gaviscon- she improved with 3 days,a totally different baby. I had to really really fight for the nutrimigen-I think it is expensive to presxribe but go in determined!
As well all the usual stuff like keeping her at 45 degree angle - we propped up her moses basket at one end and keeping her upright for 20 mins after a feed..
It has improved over time and when she started on solids the reflux stopped almost instantly. Sensing you a big unmumsnetty hug x

Geeeez sorry about typos-on my phone! But it really really does get better, I know how awful it is. My dd gets the painful gas now if she accidental ly eats dairy (relatives giving her yogurt grrrr!) Also ask to be referred to a paediatrician- they should be able to help further x

Sorry one more thing :D we started doing warm bath and sleeping bag and blanket at 7pm at that age and the warmth seemed to help a bit too and whatever you do dont try soy formula milk, had a bit of a disaster with that!

I really think you should get the black poo checked out.

Thanks so much for your posts. We've been given neocate which we're going to start on this week. She won't take a bottle at all at the moment.

I'm so worried about the black poo. It's happened twice before and I do think it's linked to the dairy. Has anyone else's LO had this? I think I'll call the paediatrician at the hospital tomorrow.

I would get the black poo checked out. Keep a nappy & show the GP. Black poo can sometimes be a sign of blood in the stool.

I agree with shitballs black poo should be checked out by a GP in case it's caused by blood. Don't worry about accidentally eating something, if it's just that it will work its way though your LO's system, unpleasant as it is.

I could also have written your post myself except only SR no milk allergy BUT have you eaten eggs or fish? This made dd flare up terribly, she's 13 weeks old now so around your baby's age.
Agree with getting black poo checked out don't want to concern you but yes it can be a sign of blood in the stool as bf babies goes between yellow mustardy stuff and green.
Dd was on ranitidine (Zantac) had a few green poos, a few on the foamy side, and one when she first started meds that was a bit mucous'y?
Since cutting out fish I've not had to give her the Zantac unless she's had a major flare up.
I hope this helps and you find out what's going on
