Quick question wrt allergy testing

DS was tested for milk, soya and egg allergies when he was about 6 months old using the skin prick test. We were told he was OK with milk and soya (though it looks like he's lactose intolerant) and allergic to egg. We were told they'd probably want to retest him when he's 3. And that's all we ever got told, now we have people who are refusing to believe he has an egg allergy or that we got him tested under the NHS because we weren't told what kind of reaction he'd have to egg or what to do if he did react.

Kicking myself for not asking at the time, but I was so thrown by the egg allergy when I was expecting a milk one that I didn't think to ask. Also I naively thought egg would be easy to avoid (and that people wouldn't be dense enough to want to test the allergy!) so my only thought was not to give him any.

Should we have been told more? And if we should will there be info on his notes that my gp could check?

There should be notes yes.

But, if I were you I would assume they were eejits Wink and call the hospital where the SKP was done and explain your predicament. Get the results and show it to a different GP (if thats possible).

All isnt lost, you might just have to make a few phone calls.

What should have happened, is your hospital did the test, then wrote to your a GP with the results. They should have sent you a copy of the letter as well, but it sounds as though this information got lost along the way.

So you might have to go back to the place where the test was done and just chase up the info.

Good luck.

Also, you could chase up retesting/challenging as to wait until the age of 3 seems ridiculous - my son will be retested when he is 13 months and will then be challenged on the substances he is allergic to, to see how serious the allergy is (impossible to know without doing that as the first skin prick tests were done at 6 months, before he'd had any solid food).

Ah ok, we actually changed gp a while ago due to them not being very good so not entirely surprised to hear it might be their fault we haven't had all the info Hmm

That interesting about not being able to know the seriousness as well, he was also tested pre-weaning.

Shall get onto my good gp soon then
