...point in a controlled way. For the second time ds had an odd episode today at my mums house, he was playing then suddenly was gasping for breath, he went reddish, was screechy crying like he was in pain, was like he had a partial blockage in his windpipe. It's happened once before at my house. I picked him and was banging his back, mum checked his mouth and banged his back a few times, nothing came out. A few minutes later it calmed down and 10 minutes later he was tip top, I've been freaked out since.

Both times have been at about 4.30pm, a couple of hours after food and milk, could it be an allergy thing? Both times about 5 minutes later there's been a little burp. reflux?? Could trapped wind be so severe, any thoughts much appreciated.

He usually cries going on his back to change nappy etc so was thinking reflux? He often pushes off us and used to arch his back. Can wake up screaming occasionally, all seem like vague symptoms to me but really need to understand what might be causing issues.

Would be grateful for any help.

Sounds terrifying for you, and I wish I could help! Am just bumping for you really.

I think you should talk to your hv and/or gp about this.

Trapped wind can be awful, and my baby has had two dreadful episodes with it. The first time, my husband called an ambulance! Ds2 wasn't gasping for breath though, just screaming in pain.

Hopefully it is just trapped wind, but gasping for breath is bad.. is there any other food he could be reacting to?

I think reflux is a bit overdiagnosed at the moment (the manufacturers of gaviscon are very good at advertising to gps!) but it sounds like reflux is a possibility. Still doesn't explain the gasping for breath though.

Hope your baby is okay from now on and this never happens again. Please do talk to a health professional.
