Hi just wondering if anyone can help its all a bit complicated but back in summer 2011 my son came back from weeks summer camp trip with school fell ill with chest infection ended up on antibiotics he then had one of my pots of probiotics which I thought would be ok since supposed to be good if you've been on antibiotics? However after this he lost his colour in face and has since then he has suffered endless allergy like symptoms and diagnosed with asthma and this is the second winter he has been very ill and had a lot of time off school (previous winters no time off school)? I know asthma/allergies can come out overnight and at any time in life but my mind keeps going back to the use of probiotics. He was fit as a fiddle before this had no probs with him? Just don't know whats happened with him and if anyone might help as I'm thinking he has an underlying fungal infection? Please help at end of tether here!!!!

If anything I would think the antibiotics would be the culprit. It's fairly common to develop a temporary problem with dairy after a course of antibiotics.

If anything is give him more probiotics to try to build up his gut flora.

I learned after DD had a serious bronchiolitis that asthma is a chronic condition in the sense that you need a number of episodes for your airways to finally end up thickening and be quick to shut.
Because of this by definition it can not be considered asthma after one/the first episode.
I also know that after illness like bronchiolitis airways are left inflamed for a long time and it makes your child more prone to trouble after. And cold viruses will always be key triggers of wheezing etc..
Having said all of this, watch for allergies (maybe by keeping a food diary for your child to track any reactions) and if you are still worried about your child it is probably best to see a doctor.
Maybe a pneumologist could give you good guidance.
On probiotics what my allergist says is that they are only a drop in the ocean i.e. just a little bit of bacteria that gets processed in the stomach and if any of that bacteria survives the stomach treatment then it gets to the gut that has millions and millions of bacteria and organisms.
