gluten free bread in machine

Hi. Does anyone use GF bread flour in their bread machine? Do you get decent results?

I also need it to be egg and dairy free, so was thinking of using either Pure (though I've used that with wheat flour and the bread is quite 'loose' and tends to fall apart after a couple of days), or maybe oil instead? It's for my son who is weaning so I need it to be quite a dense bread that will withstand sucking!

Bumping this for you OP, my father developed gluten intolerance in his late 50s and now sadly has Parkinson's which ideally needs a low protein diet apparently for dopamine absorption or some such. Mum had a bread maker so fingers crossed this will be easy for you!!

Thanks, and sorry about your Dad. I have posted in Food to see if anyone has any advice there as well.

I tried, it was frankly awful. I even tried the (pretty expensive) Lakeland bread mix but it came out doughy and yucky. In the end I gave up :(

I spoke to a baker and he says gluten free bread doesnt work in a bread machine. I asked why and he just said 'dont ask me! It just doesnt work'

So I do mine by hand. Gluten free bread doesnt need kneading. And the machine does that, perhaps thats what ruins it?

I specifically got a bread maker with a gluten free setting. Still didn't work!

Mmm, that's interesting.
The reason I've asked is because all of Sainsbury's Free From breads contain egg so I can't buy any of them. I emailed them and they said they have passed the info on so that it can be looked into the next time they review their product range. I can't believe that they put egg into EVERY bread product from this range when so many people are allergic to egg. Rant over!
I think I'll give the machine a miss then and try other supermarkets to see what their gluten free breads are like.
Thanks.

I have , and found it to be quite 'cakey'. But I only used one recipe that used a lot of oil and eggs. I am dairy/gluten free too.
