I think most supermarkets now do gluten free ranges, including pasta.

i have a packet of gluten-free bread mix left in the cupbaord from when dd2 used to be on a gluten free diet (she was a projectile vomiter if she touched gluten or berry fruits). i'll check its still in date, and can pop it off to u if u like.

Are you giving milk or egg? Most of the gluten free breads I have seen have dairy and or egg in. Supermarket food will usually say "contains wheat and gluten containing material" Watch out for things like baked beans, baby food tins, soups that are often thickened with wheat flour.

I used rice pasta for ds from about 10 months when I wanted to make more textured food. I found apricots a good substitute for tomatoes, though I probably won't be eating it myself.

Oats are a problem for coeliacs, but I was unsure whether they could trigger allergies. I gave them from 10 months anyway.

Ds has just started toast at 1 year. The look on his face is priceless.

I will definately have have a look down the gluten free aisle.
Misdee, if you do have that mix id appreciate trying it, and thanks for the offer. Bobthebaby, ds is egg and milk free yes, so thanks for the tip about the supermarket brands. I was thinking about buying a breadmaker.Im sure you can buy gluten free flour, so maybe i could make this myself.?????

I didn't bother with bread at all - it's not necessary. It's really hard to make nice gluten free bread without either milk or egg. DS eats bowlfuls of food and for self feeding I used those rice biscuits you can buy in the baby section Boots (lovingly transported to NZ by my brilliant mum). Gluten free rusks contained milk when she looked.

Please don't worry about your baby getting bored, we have just finished our "year" of being free of stuff and my ds has eaten like a trooper the whole time with lots of risottos, stews etc. I have perfected the chop it up small, cook for 30 minutes, stick in blender if it hasn't completely disintigrated cooking techinque. You just have to ignore what everyone else is feeding their baby - its not necessary to feed a near equivalent, just feed something tasty that has ingredients you ds can eat.

Avoid anything that contains

Casein, sodium caseinate, whey, potassium caseinate, calcium caseinate, lactoalbumin, albumin.

Lactic acid is fine.

Read every label, every time and phone the manufacturers if you are not sure. Add veg. oil to stews etc. as this diet could be quite low fat.

You guys are so lucky to have so many gluten free products avalaible...its still a rare find here in SA!!

I am gluten intolerant and kept DS off it for the first year but it was difficult as the alternatives are SO EXPENSIVE!!

But we did it and he is almost 2 and now eats anything and has not been sick a day so far
