she has had another allergic reaction. she culdnt breathe too good but wasnt wheezey, which is good. but an odd thing was her thumbs also swelled up and went hard.

she has just eaten an ice lolly, one of those cheap ones which arent very natural (i was at my mums and the kdis were begging for pudding).

but still, thats not enough to get her referred back to allergy clinic

another good reason to avoid additive ridden food.

dinny · 02/07/2006 23:10

Blimey, Misdee, how is dd now? what lolly was it and what do you think the additive was? hope she's OK (and you!) xxx

misdee · 02/07/2006 23:13

she is fine. lips went down after 2hours and a good dose of piriton. her skin became incrediably itchey, and she was trying to rip it off it seemed.

but is fine now, thank goodness. each time her reaction gets more severe.

And bollocks to your doctor, WTF is that all about?

Carmenere · 02/07/2006 23:14

What do you mean that's not enough to get her referred, bloody hell what do they want? I'm shocked.

QueenPeaHead · 02/07/2006 23:14

you sure it wasn't the lighter fluid you were thinking of taking the marker pen off her with?! or is that a different dd?

misdee · 02/07/2006 23:18

taht was dd3 peahead.

and we didnt use lighter fluid in the end, i just took her with a green tinged hand and arm.

i think they want her to have a full blown alanphalix shock before they do anything

remember my gp says dd1 allergies are all in my head because i am over anxious.

QueenPeaHead · 02/07/2006 23:20

what a prat (gp obv).

I'm allergic to penicillin and when I had reactions the itching would start first on the palms of my hands and the tops of my feet and then move up the limbs and onto the torso.

so hard thumbs doesn't sound too wierd to me...

but what did A&E say? They aren't your gp - didn't they say you should investigate further or anything?

misdee · 02/07/2006 23:22

paed there said he will contact their allergy specialists and will contact us if any follow-up is needed. they also feel allergy testing would be inconclusive right now, so again its just avoidance.

guess i better dab dd3 with some egg to see if she is really allergic next.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 02/07/2006 23:25

What a load of crap.

They can do blood tests to determine allergies. DD had tests done when she was 16 months. It cleared her from a whole range of usual irritants but confirmed that she had (by then only mild) cows milk protein allergy, and a peanut allergy. No other nuts (v useful to know), just peanuts.

Keep harrassing your GP.

Chandra · 02/07/2006 23:29

Misdee, I'm sorry you are going -again- trough this, I have had my dose of dismissing GPs and paediatricians who have dragged their feet forever and finally... this week they "oficially" recognised DS's allergies by granting him the right of carrying an epipen. I'm mad at them, he has been without one since his first reaction 18m ago even when I took them the ELISAs and RAST tests

Hope she feels better soon and please, don't fiddle with egg.

misdee · 02/07/2006 23:31

chandra, i am at my wits ends with allergies.

dd1 reacts to food colourings, (was tarttrazine, but now gotta find out what todays was), cats, pollens, dust, and some other things which we cant pinpoint.

dd2 reacts to cats and has hayfever.

dd3 has reacted to egg white and cats so far.

all have eczema.

Oh, bloody hell, Misdee - how are your children's allergies your fault?!

(Am at Harefield poss on Wed btw - will you be there?)

misdee · 02/07/2006 23:37

not on wednesdays. dd2 has pre-school and dd3 finally her has her eye appointment to see if she definatly needs glasses. sorry.

I know MIsdee, I remember you well from my first posting about eczema. Your GP can bypass the paediatrician and order RAST tests directly at an aprox £8 per allergen tested payable by you, The problem is finding a brave GP that is interested in desciphering the test results. It's a nightmare, isn't it?

However, the tests results can be so varied that sometimes I think the only way to know what they are really allergic to is to keep a diary, but even so, things they eat everyday are difficult to rule out as you wouldn't point them as culprits

But if I can help in any way please ask.

hunkermunker · 02/07/2006 23:40

S'OK - might be there on Friday possibly too. Will text you when I know more.

Really hope you get some answers re allergies though

misdee · 02/07/2006 23:42

they are changing the appointments system back to 'normal' next month, so its gonna be easier to get appointments for all this stuff now. instead of cattling the phone line from 8.30am or queuing at 8am (7am on thursdays).

now do i keep dd1 off school to get GP appointment?

OP posts:
misdee · 02/07/2006 23:42

ok, hunker, should be there friday
