DD has picked at her eczema so much behind her knees that its bleeding a lot, we have put fucidin on, aveeno and she,s on antibiotics.

DH has suggested bandaging her knee but i dont know anything about this, i know that some of you do "wet wraps" can you tell me if this would be ok for her knees and how we do it, DH is going to go and buy some bandages.

Thanks from a very very tired and harassed mum!!

don't inow if wet wrapping is ok for knees ,just wanted to express sympathy.ds1 has done the same thing with his elbows at the mo and is also on anti-biotics.crap isn't it?
if you are going to wet wrap then you can get tubi grip 'legings' that will cover the whole leg and so be more comfortable than just the knee area.
i think you cover the area in emollient , then cover in wet bandage/tubigrip, then cover in dry.

having said that . don't think you should wet wrap infected skin.

I don't know if this would help. But if you have a paddling pool, could you put a whole tin of saxa salt into it. I know its not the same as sea, but I am going to put some in DS paddling pool. In fact I might go and buy sea salt for this..... he is in/out of it all day and his excema is worse behind his knees as well.

I was wetwrapped often as a child, and my excellent GP said fine to do as long as you are on oral antibiotics. Smother area in emollient and bandage as tight as you can so she can still move her joint. Leave at least 24 hours then wash in plaion water, dry thoroughly and repeat. Often works wonders.

Plain water, even...

A budget version is to slather cream onto wet skin and then immediately put in nightclothes (all in ones are best).

would the salt not make the eczema sting more though?

is wet wrap advised in this weather anyway?

What was the thing about having bath and lettin gthe hot water run thru porridge oats wrapped in a muslin? is that for eczema?

sorry for being useless!

ah yes, i remember reading about this i will try it this afternoon, thanks for the reminder!!!

Another thing that im wondering is this:
DD had the RAST tests earlier this yearand they came back as normal so the Paed told me to put her back on milk, dairy and wheat, he said the benefits of them were better than the risks as she wasnt putting on weight.
But ive noticed that everynow and then and especially when she,s had dairy at nursery that her eczema seems worse but she now loves yoghurts, cheese etc, the bread is not a problem because she doesnt eat much of it anyway.

Has anyone had the RAST tests done, come back all clear but still have symptoms of an allergy/intolerance?
