Conflicting advice about Soya Milk......help!!!

DD, 12 months, has suffered with eczema since she was tiny. She's had allergy tests which all came back negative. We were advised by the allergy clinic to try her on soya milk to see if it helped her skin. We noticed a great improvement, although still had to use steriods and lots of emmolient. We were then advised to try her on cows milk again to see if the skin flared up, which it did. However, even when it is at its worst its always manageable, she is not disturbed by her eczema at night and it is not becoming infected.

I have been reading about soya milk on the internet and it has made me worried about using it. My GP says to stick with it, but the advice online seems to be to avoid a special diet unless absolutely necessary.

Anyone got any advice please? I just want to do the best thing for my daughter but I'm not sure what that is.

Thanks

I read recently that supplementing regular formula with prebiotics may help

Yes, it is best to avoid soya milk but as with everything research is always changing. What appears good for you now might actually be bad in a few years. Only you can decide which is the lesser of the two evils (so to speak). After trying different hypoallergenic formulas with dd, I have decided to stick with soya formula, for the time being.

You have other options which your GP should have discussed with you. There are many hypoallergenic formulas available, as well as goats and rice milks, but I don't know much about these.

Unfortunately my GP is a bit brief whenever we go. She won't refer DD to a dermatologist as she says her skin isn't bad enough (even though my HV says it is) and she certainly has never discussed soya milk with us, she just keeps writing about the prescriptions. I think there is so much advice on the interent it is easy to get very confused by it all. Oh the joys!!!

I don't think is a very good idea, but maybe I'm biased because DS developed a soya allergy which makes feeding him more difficult than his milk allergy.

I'm not sure if the fat content of soya milk is adequate for a one yr old (probably less than required). DS has been in rice milk since he was 2.5 yrs old and we were told by the nutritionist that we needed to suplement it adding.... olive oil to it (yuk!) so.... I would advocate for Neocate or to continue in a suitable baby formula for at least another 6m.
