Can you be allergic to a food in a similar way to a skin allergy?

A curious question. Or is that what 'intolerant' actually means, that you get hives in your stomach/gut with discomfort, swelling etc, when you eat that food?

Do you mean can you get a skin reaction to a certain food?

You can. DS2 is intolerant of Walkers crisps, especially the lower fat and baked ones. They give him a really bad angry red moustache. It's called contact dermatitis and only steroid cream got rid of it for him.

If that's not what you meant, sorry for the excess info.

Yes you can. It's called a delayed allergy and effects the intestine. Allergy UK has some good info on it. It's still an allergy rather than an intolerance is the immune system is still involved.
