Atopic Children and lymph nodes!

Anyone who has generally atopic child do they constantly have obvious lumpy lymph nodes?
My DD who is 5 has eczema and very dry skin, a constant runny nose (usually green), allergic shinners and always has obvious raised lymph nodes under her arms, in groin and on neck.
Wondering if I should pursue it with GP or accept it as pat of atopic-ness.

This does generally mean his immune system is in overdrive which is backed up by his skin and mucus production symptoms. I have two sons who have varying degrees of allergies / intolerances which manifest themselves in skin / upper respiratory symptoms.

Interesting question! My DS has multiple allergies, asthma and eczema and I've often noticed that his glands in his groin are very pronounced but never connected the two. Having had DD first I thought maybe it was just a boy thing Blush. Maybe there is a connection between swollen lymph glands and allergies? Anybody know?

OHforDUCKScake · 19/08/2013 11:48

Both my boys have constantly big, swollen lymph nodes.

It never worried me too much because my little brother has exactly the same.

Interestingly, out of my whole family and their fathers family the only people who are atopic are my sons and my little brother.

So to me there is a clear obvious link.

I had no idea until I read this thread though, I just thought it was a coincidence.

Thanks for the posts interesting that it is probably linked! I guess their bodies are fighting 'life' by producing more white cells.

I have often thought my DD is about 90% well and has just got used to this as normal. Having a pretty constant runny nose and itchy skin has become her norm. If you've always got enlarged lymph nodes then you are constantly working overdrive for no gain maybe?

Yes, I went to my GP when DS was a baby before his allergies were diagnosed about his lymph nodes.

I have this, I have eczema, asthma and hayfever and my lymph glands are always up. Ditto allergic shiners.

I am 34. None of my five have any allergies etc, very lucky!

greencybermummy · 21/08/2013 10:42

5madthings do you feel full of life (daft q if you've got 5 kids!)? Do you think your allergies as a child made you miserable? My DD just looks run down and worn out all the time.

I def get more worn out and run down,'my hayfever is going mental today and my eczema can make me miserable, esp when its on my face.

I dont know Amy different but I would love to have 'normal' skin that doesn't react to everything and anything, that I dot have to slather in endless creams etc.

At times yes it did make me miserable as a child and still can do. On the whole you just get on with it, having kids means you dont have a choice!

Have you seen an allergy specialist?

freefrommum · 04/09/2013 16:05

Have to say, despite multiple allergies, asthma and severe eczema, DS NEVER looks tired or run down! He does sometimes have 'allergic shiners' but this is partly to do with how fair skinned he is. He is full of energy and probably healthier than most of his friends, which I always put down to him having such a great diet freefrom the usual rubbish that most kids eat (including my DD!). Because his diet is so limited, he eats tons of fresh fruit, veg, meat and rice - much healthier than me or the rest of the family!
