I'm sure the hospital staff told me exactly what to do but whenever I'm in a hospital I go into a panic. All my concentration goes into nodding and looking calm and I forget to actually listen.

dd is having IgE tests on Monday - 1 general and 1 peanut specific - and I have been given cream plus dressings to apply an hour beforehand. I know how but not where to put these, am thinking either inner elbow or her forearm (the soft side if you have palm facing upwards)? Does this sound right? She's 8 yrs old.

Thank you!!

When dd had hers done they put the cream on the insides of both elbows and the backs of her hands.

I think the hands in just in case they struggle to get a good vein in the elbow.

Best of luck.

Thanks, I've got 4 patches so that sounds perfect!

Yes, our experience was the same. They took blood from back of DS's hand but I know that if they can't find a decent vein there they will try the inside of the elbow as they do with adults.

They went for the inner elbow. Almost an anticlimax in the end, we were only in the hospital for about 2 minutes and dd hardly noticed the needle going in

Thats good broccolirocks....reading this brought back vivid memories of the Dr attempting to get blood out of my 6mo son. One nurse holding him down, the Dr taking blood from DS as he screamed his head of hysterically, me in the corner sobbing.

The lovely Dr had said that there really was no point giving him the cream Hmm

Cynical me assumed this was because they wanted the bed (after we had been admitted for an allergic reaction) and the cream took too long to work.

Glad to hear it went smoothly broccoli.
